Jim Brown, Go Sit Down!!!!!!

Okay guys and gals, you know what time it is. Time for the Sitchoazz Down Award of the week.

This one goes to the OG of football, Mr. Jim Brown. Brown is deemed to many as one of the greatest athletes to touch a football. But in addition to his greatness, Brown has also been known to be very vocal. Sometimes speaking on things that he really shouldn't. This time around, Brown spoke out about not one, but two things that put him up for the "Sitchoazz Down" honors.

Brown Speaks Out On Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan

Brown recently spoke out on Woods and Jordan regarding social activism, in a Real Sports interview (which airs June 23rd). When discussing Woods, Brown said the following:

"This cat is a mamajama; he is a killer. He'll run over you, he'll kick your ass. But as an individual for social change or any of that kind of -- , terrible. Terrible."

Regarding both athletes, Brown has this to share:

"I know they both know better, OK? And I know they both can do better without hurting themselves."

Okay first off... who still says mamajama??? This is 2009, not 1979. The last time "mamajama" was popular, Soul Train was still relevant.

Second, since when did you become the Activism Police?? There are so many other athletes who do much worse than slacking in social activism. Yet, that's who you decide to focus on???

Brown's a smart man. He brings them up because they are famous worldwide. Any mention of their names makes his comments noticeable. But it wasn't necessary. Let them live their lives as they see fit, even if it's not under your standards.

Brown Suspects Marijuana Involved In Stallworth Accident

So Mr. Brown goes on Dan LeBetard's radio show and speculates that Browns WR Donte Stallworth was doing more than drinking the night he killed a pedestrian. During the interview, he told LeBetard:

"This situation is a tragedy all around, but what was involved was alcohol and marijuana. On one hand, DUI is a very serious thing in America. Marijuana of course is against all the rules."

Brown later admits that he's not 100% sure this info is accurate, but says that he spoke to a "very reliable source" regarding the allegations (Brown is a part of the Cleveland Browns management).

If I'm the Browns, I'm either temporarily suspending him from his duties or I'm flat out firing him. Why would a member of your own organization put out such information, that hasn't even been confirmed????

He's supposed to work FOR the Browns, not against them. Clearly this is not a good look.

This is the new millennium, does he realize that folks can sue over anything???? What if this info is false, and Stallworth decides to take action for such allegations?? Maybe 40+ years ago you could just run off at the mouth, but in this day and age, we are all just one wrong comment away from a lawsuit.

I think this is the perfect time to tell Jim Brown, "Mr. Brown, you are an NFL icon. But your latest outbursts are uncalled for and unprofessional. We are in a recession, go sitchoazz down, before you are out of a job!

"This message has been brought to you by the NFL Chick!"

OK I'm at work rolling at the Soul Train video. I love Jimmy B. We have weekly awards called the Jimmys. The thing is that in his time of playing Jim Brown and Mr. Ali had the Civil Rights movement going on. Brown was highly critial of Arthur Ashe as well. For whatever reason he seems to target prominent black athletes and say they aren't doing for their community what he did.

Just be cause neither Tiger nor Jordan are getting arrested in the streets for protests doesn't mean they aren't in those same streets talking to kids and helping the community.

As for the Donte' Stallworth issue. I mean, if it smells like a rat and looks like one, its a rat right? I mean only word that comes to mind for me is Snitchy Brown. I'm a little disappointed because Jimmy B is way to gangster for that. So I'm just going to ignore the last half of this post because I don't want one of my final memories of Jimmy B to be Snitchy B.

You know what, I am usually in agreeance with you on stuff...but this one...ehhhhhhhhhh I dunno.

Ok on the real, I 1000000000000% agree with Jim Brown on his thoughts on being socially active, especially with the power that Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods have. This was something that ALL of the major superstars did in the 60's and 70's. Jim Brown, Kareem, Bill Russell, Muhammad Ali, Hank Aaron, etc. all stood up.

What's happened is is that the modern athlete has become comfortable in their situations and they don't have the scope to see what's really real in the world today. Yeah, they don't have to do it, but damn it'd be nice! They have more power than maybe even Obama, if you wanna be real. Obama got power, but could you imagine MJ actually voicing his opinion on something? He could change the world by himself.

As for the Stallworth point, yeah he probably shouldn't have said it, but have you seen some of the anonymous NFL surveys, player testimonials on weed use? Most folks think that AT LEAST 60-80% of the NFL smokes weed. That's a very large percentage. Jim knows what it is, and he's just telling the truth, as he always does.

AGAIN, if Jim Brown is gonna receive the "Sitchoazz Down Award" then it should be for wife'n up hella young yamps and smacking 'em around.

He old school, he don't know any other way than to be tough and tell the truth.

Damn I wrote a lot, don't be mad at me. I still do love ya :D

6 mag, LMAO at snitchy B. You and EdTheSportsFan seem to agree. I understand why. But for me, telling someone what they should be doing isn't my style, not in the least. I'm not saying it's okay, but I've always learned to mind my own business unless it directly affects me. And whose to say that aren't being active socially? Because it's not what HE sees fit, it's not good enough?? Pppfffftt..

As for Stallworth, we can all assume, but as a professional he looks anything but with stating things that has not been confirm. For goodness sakes he works FOR the Browns and putting "What ifs" out there. From an organizational standpoint it should have never happened. I wouldn't be shocked if Stallworth was high, but I wouldn't make such statements without proof. He's an idiot!

I know he's old school, and he's telling it like it is, but as far as Tiger and his social activisim goes - WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE what he is doing? Do you realize he has a foundation has supported over 10 million children with scholarships and grants, that he supports character development... that he funds the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Southern California?

Maybe he could do more - maybe he could be this shining beacon of hope for all people... he could be the second coming of MLK. But he doesn't want to - he wants to play golf, love his family, and drink Gatorade. Good for him. He does what he can, in the best way he knows how - uses his celebrity to help in the best way that he can.

I made my peace with Tiger's activism at Stanford, when everyone seemed to want him to speak up and out - and he remained true to himself as a "Coblanasian". We can only be who we are - and as far as his activism goes, it's good enough for him, that makes it good enough for me, and better than most.

So he didn't call out the woman on the Golf channel for using the word "lynch" - yeah, that was bad, but he picks his battles - we don't get to pick them for him, and YO, Jim Brown, you don't get to either. Seriously, go sit down. NO ONE is obligated to give back - NO ATHLETE or SUPERSTAR is obligated to give back. Be grateful that some do.

Belinders couldn't have said it better. Back in the day, desperate times called for desperate measures which is why Mr. Brown and Mr. Ali were speaking out in any form they could.

Times today don't call for that. We have come along way because of their actions. Yes there is still an even longer way to go, but it is as not as drastic.

And as I said earlier, Jimmy B doesn't know what they are doing as far as their charities are concerned which never gets reported because all media outlets want to do today is report on the bad things athletes do.

That's all I got.

While I agree he deserves this award, I still can't be mad at Jim Brown.

He is old school and there's nothing wrong with that. A dose of old school does the body good!

belinders, we are >>>><<<< good for him that he's old school and trying to get them to raise their activism game. But he doesn't know everything they do, either. Who does.

Molly, JB better sit his 5 dollar a$$ down before someone makes change LMAOOO

To answer your very-good-question: "who still says mama-jama? ANSWER: Bad-Ass Jim Brown still does, that's who!

To answer your second very good question When did Jim Brown become the activism police? ANSWER: Back in the early 60's when a man had to be-a-man and standup loud-and-proud for an enitre race of people of color that were being disrespected, violated, wrongly-accused and held without simple "CIVIL RIGHTS!!!"

Brown was asks for his opinion on these two "CHEEZIN" punks and he gave it!!! What if Brown, Ali, Jackie Robinson, Bill Russell, Paul Roberson and countless others would have lived by your gutless advice and just lived their lives like those UNCLE TOMS JESSIE OWENS and JOE LOUIS did? Look where it got them for sucking up and trying to be GOOD QUIET BOYS!!!
