Kurt Warner Retires On Top- Video

Category: , , ,

Cardinals QB Kurt Warner announced that he will retire from football after 12 season in the NFL.

Warner was one of the great stories of the league. The devoted Christian and former Arena league player went from stacking shelves at the supermarket, to taking over for an injured Trent Green in St Louis. Warner eventually took the Rams to 2 Super Bowls, winning one (SB XXXIV). Warner also won 2 league MVPs as well.

Once Warner left the Rams, he had a brief stint with the Giants before going to Arizona. Warner rejuvenated his career with the Cardinals and made Arizona become a respectable team. Warner led the Cardinals to Super Bowl XLIII before losing to the Steelers.

For the 2009 season, the 38-year-old Warner still had a good year, completing over 66% of his passes and throwing 26 TDs. The Cardinals fell short to the New Orleans Saints in the 2009 NFL Divisional Playoff round.

Kurt Warner will be missed, but not as much as his feisty wife, Brenda Warner. We've seen Brenda transform from an ugly duckling, to a swan, right before our eyes.

The NFL Chick appreciates you guys and gals for coming to her blog on a regular basis. So I've found a way to try and thank you for all of your support. Enter to win an autographed Bill Parcells cooler, courtesy of Gatorade. Gatorade has been fueling NFL players for 40 years and at Super Bowl XLIV Gatorade will redefine the sideline to meet the athletes’ pre, during and post-game fueling needs. We just received an exclusive look at the new Gatorade cooler and sideline hydration system that will be unveiled during the Super Bowl.

The newly designed coolers and squeeze bottles make it easier for players to get what they need to fuel their performance. Sounds simple, but Gatorade worked directly with athletes and athletic training staffs on specific functional improvements. Players on both Super Bowl sidelines will also be using Gatorade’s new line of performance products before, during, and after the game. Several athletes including Dwayne Wade, Peyton Manning, Serena Williams and Derek Jeter worked with Gatorade on the development of the new series of products.

This cooler holds about 10 gallons and is great for sporting events. To enter the contest, email me at nflchick@thenflchick.com , send your name and email address or phone number. The winner will be chosen next Friday and notified.

Good luck!

From ETSF- Top 10 Wide Receivers In The NFL

Category: , , ,

My blog brother Ed The Sports Fan asked me to participate in a survey on the Top 10 Wide Receivers in the NFL. I enjoyed the post so I decided to post it over here. Feel free to agree, disagree, or simply read it. I thought a lot of the answers were compelling and interesting. Enjoy!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh how we love to debate here at Ed The Sports Fan lol...this will be fun, I promise you.

So Kenny, B-Lew, and I were talking recently about who the best wide receivers were in football, especially in seeing how much has changed from just a year ago when we did this list. See, we've done this before, and this doesn't have just my biased opinion on the best. So, we brought in a couple of consultants to give us 5 varying opinions on the best flankers, split ends, and slot receivers in the league.

Big thanks to Reeta aka The NFL Chick and Richard Boadu from 6 Magazine for helping out on this production. Oh yeah, I chimed in with my own 2 cents as well.

Get ready to be mad at us and totally disagree with our picks, thanks.

Terrell Owens- Go Sitchoazz DOWN!!!!

I've never been a big Terrell Owens fan, until I started watching the T.O. Show. I always perceived Owens to be a egotistical maniac who never accepts responsibility and causes nothing but trouble. However, watching his show made me see why he was the way he was and for that, I became sympathetic and even started to like him a little. But not anymore.

Regarding how he thought his career should have gone, Owens told USA Today in an interview:

"I know hands-down I'd be close to Jerry Rice's records if I had been with quality quarterbacks like he had.He had Joe Montana and he finished with Steve Young. That wasn't a dropoff.

"Say I had been with a guy like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Drew Brees all of my career. Are you kidding me?"

Are YOU kidding ME?!

This is the same guy who had Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb and Tony Romo as the guys throwing to him during his career. I'm not gonna even count Steve Young, but if you want to add him for general purposes, bring him in the convo too.

Garcia and McNabb were Pro Bowl caliber players when Owens played for them. While Romo was just starting to progress, Owens still caught over 3,000 yards and 36 TDs while in Dallas.

Remember, this is the same guy that blocked a trade to Baltimore, because Kyle Boller was the QB. Not that I blame him- Boller was pretty bad- but to say the other QBs he's played for affected his career numbers is pretty laughable to me. Owens is crying again...... I guess we having given him any attention since he played on the lowly Bills last season.

This is the time when Kita and Mo (his publicists) need to step in and tell him to STFU. With the QBs he's managed to have, he's 3rd All-Time in receiving yards as well as TDs. Clearly his career numbers can't be THAT bad if he's right up there with Rice. Nothing wrong with shooting for the moon, but to throw your players under the bus is classless.

Terrell Owens, Sitchoazz Down!

Master P: Tell Us Why You Mad Son!

Apparently, Master P is about everything New Orleans- including his Saints! So when rapper Lil' Wayne said that he was rooting for the Vikings prior to the NFC Championship game (Weezy says he's a diehard Favre fan), it didn't sit right to Mr. Miller that his fellow NO native wasn't cheering for the home team. Master P said the following:

"The comment Lil Wayne made about New Orleans Saints losing to the Minnesota Vikings, made no sense to me as a New Orleans native," explained P. "This is our hope as a city after surviving Hurricane Katrina. This team should bring us together as people. I understand that he has the right to have his own opinion and comment or even root for another team if he wants to. It's just disappointing to hear this coming from a brother who was born and raised in New Orleans, made money off his music representing the city of New Orleans, talking about it in his lyrics.

"I'm from Uptown New Orleans and I don't care who the Saints play against, how good the opposing team is, nor what the odds are against them. I would never go against my team, the New Orleans Saints, or root for an opposing team playing against them. We've been waiting to get to the Super Bowl for 40 years and if we do, we will celebrate in Second Line. I guess we won't be hearing any Superbowl songs from Lil Wayne unless the Vikings win. This is sad for the fans in the city of New Orleans because they really thought Lil Wayne was down.

"Most entertainers and athletes don't realize that once you're in the spotlight, you need to think about some of the things that you say because it will follow you throughout your career, good or bad."

While everyone is entitled to root for whomever they want, I kinda feel Master P on this. While sports are simply used for entertainment purposes, the fact that it has my city's name in front of it is every indication that I'm rooting for them, no matter what. Think about people in Boise, ID or in Bizmarck, ND who don't have a team to call their own but would love to. Imagine if Philip Rivers and the Ravens were in the AFC Championship. I love my boo, but I love my squad more. At the same time, if Weezy is a diehard Favre fan, he should have thought twice before putting money on him. I'm just saying............

Pro Bowl week has arrived a week early and is in full swing. Players from the AFC and NFC conferences are down in Miami getting their practice on for Sunday's showdown over bragging rights on who's the best (we all know it's the AFC, so let's get that out of the way LOL). While a lot of players have declined their invitation to participate, there is a lot of star power still playing. Here's a look at a few pics of this week's practices:

The Super Bowl Mayoral Bets Are On!

1

Category: , , , , ,

Every year when the Super Bowl is set, the entire city of the teams get involved. This year is no different. New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin and Indianapolis mayor Greg Ballard placed their friendly wager on ESPN. This year, it seems as though the "food bet" is a feast. I don't want to spoil it for you, take a look for yourself. But after listening to what they are offering, I'm ready to take a trip to Indy and New Orleans for a weekend, just to eat!

Ravens Jackson Gone, Zorn In????

3

Category: , , ,

The Ravens lost one of their important pieces to their offensive staff when QB Coach Hue Jackson accepted the job to become the offensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders. While most wonder why Jackson would leave such a stable organization to one that has been a disaster the past few years, most coaches strive to move up in the ranks and possibly become a head coach one day. I hope Jackson does well and has much success in Oakland.

With loss of Jackson, leaves a huge hole for the Ravens to fill. The development of Joe Flacco has been largely accredited to Jackson's work with him since he was drafted in 2008. While Flacco has shown nothing but potential, having someone help him grow will be key in his continuing progress.

According to Ravens Insider Aaron Wilson, former Redskins head coach Jim Zorn would be interested in filling the position. Wilson tweeted the following this afternoon,

"Talked to Jim Zorn today at the Senior Bowl. He's definitely interested in the Ravens' QB coaching job. Nothing concrete yet."

In addition to Zorn, the Ravens also have Ravens offensive consultant and former offensive coordinator Al Saunders possibly eyeballing the position as well. Wilson also tweeted this info regarding Saunders:

"Zorn will face competition, though, from Ravens offensive consultant Al Saunders, a former NFL offensive coordinator."

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The Ravens can't go wrong with either candidate at the position. While Zorn's head coaching career wasn't so bright, Zorn was a well known QB coach for many years, tutoring players such as Charlie Batch and Matt Hasslebeck. Both QBs had success with Zorn as their coach. Al Saunders is very well known around the league as being an offensive mastermind, most noted under the Chiefs and Rams when they were high powered offenses. To have either guy as the next man up to help Flacco would be a plus.

Hue Jackson will be very hard to replace. But having Jim Zorn and Al Saunders fight for the open position isn't so bad either.

Suggs' Girlfriend Drops $70 Mil Lawsuit

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Ravens LB Terrell Suggs has a LOT to be thankful for... about $70 million reasons. Attorneys for Suggs says his girlfriend, Candace Williams (shown above), has withdrawn the lawsuit against the Ravens LB. The couple was seen hugging outside of the courtroom and are looking to reconcile.

Remember, Williams stated that Suggs poured bleacher all over her and her child, as well as broke her nose. I have to wonder if she had much of a case to begin with and they are working it out. Whatever the circumstance, they seem to be back together.

This is a picture posted in my earlier post, Suggs and Williams during happier times.

Hopefully he can get past this and move on, especially for their children (they have 2). Funny how the dismissal flew under the radar but everyone was all over the restraining order and lawsuit story when it first broke a while back. Only in America............

So The Super Bowl Is Finally Set.............

And we now know it's the Indianapolis Colts against the New Orleans Saints. The two teams who were undefeated for majority of the regular season, made it to the big game. While many people picked at least one (or both) of these teams, it was still a crap shoot on who was actually going to make it. Yesterday's championship games were full of excitement and didn't disappoint, as expected. Let's recap what happened for these 2 teams to be the conference champions.

- The Colts came out as AFC Champions, like most of us expected. Rex Ryan had his usual, crazy schematic blitzes and at times Manning looked scared and confused. The Jets defense was really getting to him. In addition to that, New York's offense had a point to prove as well. Sanchize and Co was up 17-13 by halftime. But this is Peyton Manning we are talking about.... and right now he's playing on a level I've never even seen before. The Colts came back at the half and adjusted, scoring 17 unanswered points and winning the game, 30-17. Shout out to Ryan and the New York Jets for giving Indy a huge scare in the first half. But in the end, Indy came out victorious.

-*petty moment alert* I hate to do this, but I must..... my blogging brother, Ed The Sports Fan, wrote a blog that the 2009 Jets were a second coming of the 2000 Ravens (good blog post, check it out here). Well, you can't be the 2000 Ravens if you give up nearly 400 yards of total offense and don't make it to and win the Super Bowl. As I said in last week's post, The 2009 Jets = 2008 Ravens. Yesterday's loss just confirmed my assessment.

-It must be really bad when you have your own trending topic on twitter. Last night as the AFC Championship game was closing, #rexryanstomach was atop the hottest trending topics.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
It's really bad when your sweater vests and shirts look like they are a size extra smedium. Rex looks like a male version of Octomom on the sidelines. It's not a good look, Sexy Rexy.

-Former Jets QB Joe Namath was in attendance to yesterday's game. Am I wrong for wishing Suzy Kolber had interviewed him again so he could make more passes at her???

-The NFL must be the only gig Jordin Sparks can get these days. When is enough, enough?? I'm just saying......

-Of course, the petty side of me LOVED Peyton Manning's classy swipe (if there is a such thing) at Rex Ryan and the Jets. During his postgame interview, Manning said , "I thought we just kept our mouths shut and went to work this week". I love petty moments!

-New Orleans has the second best pregame ritual ever. Of course, my Ravens pregame are #1 in my book, but I always wanna throw on some pads when I see Drew Brees fire his teammates up!

-The Minnesota/New Orleans game was one of the best playoff games BY FAR this postseason. It was live, full of drama and suspense... but it was also sloppy as hell. Turnover after turnover was the deciding factor in this game. If I would have told you that the Vikings had twice as many 1st downs (31 to 15), nearly 3 times the amount of rushing yards (165 to 68) and double the total yards (475 to 257) and still lost, you would think I was lying, right?! I would too. But Minnesota had 5 turnovers, out of the 6 total in last night's game.

Where they do that at?? The stats say they were the better team, but this is the NFL. Stats never tell the whole story.

-Out of all the turnovers, the one that sticks out the most is Favre's interception in field goal range with 7 seconds left on the clock. That pushed the game into OT and with New Orleans winning the coin toss, it was over. The Saints kicked the winning FG to advance to the Super Bowl. Brett Favre is a great QB, probably one of the greatest, but he will always be known for making boneheaded mistakes in the clutch as well.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Yesterday's INT eerily resembled the 2007 NFC Championship, when Favre threw an INT that eventually led to the Giants OT win against Green Bay. I hope Favre finally retires. His last 3 seasons haven't ended on a positive note. It's time to hang up the cleats, Brett!

-If I'm Brad Childress, I'd make Adrian Peterson carry a football for the rest of the year, until training camp. His fumblitis is hurting the Vikings.

-Listening to Joe Buck slurp Favre's bath water during the entire broadcast was annoying as hell. But it wasn't just Buck. Fox's pregame show should have been dubbed the Favre Pregame Show. There was no love for Drew Brees or the Saints. It was a big ol' Brett Favre love fest. I get it, Favre is an NFL legend. But he's on the couch now, along with 29 other teams. The media and their biased nature is down right sickening at times.

-Congrats to the Saints for advancing to their first Super Bowl ever. It's amazing how much joy a sports team brought to an entire community. The fans of New Orleans relied the Saints for joy ever since Hurricane Katrina, as a way to celebrate life. And now, they finally have an opportunity to bring home their first ever Lombardi Trophy.

-The girl in me is kinda glad New Orleans won. There is tons of man candy on that team. Reggie, Sharper, and Meachem makes it MLK Fan approved!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

-Does American Idol have a contract with the NFL? Two former Idols did the National Anthem before the championship games. This is the NFL, they couldn't find more popular artists to sing? If Prince can make a Minnesota fight song, he damn sure can sing the National Anthem.

-Speaking of the Vikings Fight song, I blame Minnesota's mishaps squarely on Prince. That song is awful. If you haven't heard the anthem, check it out. Prince was dead wrong for this.

The NFL Helps Haiti With Record Breaking Weekend

3

Category: , , , , ,

The NFL and it's players have taken the initiative to helping the country of Haiti after it's massive earthquake, last Tuesday.

Commissioner Roger Goodell has reported that the NFL's promotion of the Red Cross text donations during last weekend's divisional playoffs accumulated over $500K per hour, and they estimated over $6 million dollars was raised as a result.

In addition to the league's promotions and previous donations, players have also decided to take matters into their own hands. WR Donte Stallworth tweeted that he would donate $1 for every new follower he gained, and Browns star Josh Cribbs also decided to follow Stallworth's footsteps and donate to PROJECT MEDISHARE using the same method.

Bengals wideout Chad Ocho Cinco has challenged 2009 Offensive Player of the Year Chris Johnson to a race, and the loser will donate his entire paycheck to Haiti.

Remember, if you would still like to donate, text HAITI to 90999 or go to www.redcross.org for help

NFL Divisional Weekend Recap And Thoughts

2

Category: , , , , , , ,

Excuse me for taking a brief hiatus. The Ravens once again, found a way to rip my heart out, and stomp on it like a Dave Chappelle skit.

To make matters worse, my boo Philip Rivers pulled a Peyton Manning (before his SB win, of course) and choked in the playoffs....... AGAIN! I had to regroup, this football weekend was just too much for me to handle in such a short period of time.

Luckily for me, I've ignored the local sports media stations, ESPN and the NFL Network so I could collect my thoughts and create a new blog post. Here's my thoughts on this weekend's divisional games:

-If you thought the Saints were going to be one and done in the playoffs, raise your hand.......

Looks like you were dead wrong! I had no idea how to look at Cardinals-Saints game, but I sure thought that the score would have been similar to last week's wild card game with the Green Bay Packers. After scoring on their first possession, they looked totally out of their game. Once Kurt Warner's INT and hit happened, it was pretty much a wrap.

Warner said he planned to retire, but then recanted that statement right before the playoffs. My guess is after that hit, he's gonna call it a career.

-Hello Reggie Bush!
Image and video hosting by <span class=
I've waited your whole NFL career for a game like Saturday's, and you came out on fiyah! Five carries, 84 yards and a punt return resulted in 2 TDs for the day for Mr. USC. I guess Kim Kardashian's presence and possible marriage proposal bet has that effect on him.

-Shout out to the homeless dude at the Saints game.
Image and video hosting by <span class=
Good to see New Orleans giving back to the community. Oh wait........... that's Brad Pitt.

- I love my Ravens, and I always will, but they were not on their game this weekend. The football gods clearly weren't working in their favor. From the awful personal foul call on Ray Lewis, to Ed Reed's INT being punched out and fumbled, the Ravens couldn't catch a break if they paid for it.
Image and video hosting by <span class=
My biggest issue with the game was the offensive game plan of the Ravens. There was no sense of urgency, and the play calling was atrocious. Cam Cameron didn't adjust and neutralize the speed of the Colts defense, and I have no idea why. Saturday night, I was yelling, "Off with his head!", because I had an issue with majority of his play calling that night. But what's done is done...... yeah, I'm still salty. Sue me.

-Just when you think old man Favre is OLD MAN Favre, he sips on that damn Fountain of Youth again, and makes plays the same way he did 15 years ago.
Image and video hosting by <span class=
Favre threw for 234 yards and 4 TDs in the Vikings 34-3 rout over the Cowboys. I don't think I've ever seen a dude so old (in football years), play so well. I stopped slurping the Favre kool aid once he went to New York, but I can't take away anything he's done this season. He's been a great addition to Minnesota.

- With most NFL games, there are upsets on the horizon. I don't think anyone saw the Jets going to San Diego and coming out with a win and advance to the AFC Championship. But that's exactly what they did. The Chargers moved the ball for majority of the game, but only scored 14 points in the game, with the Jets eventually taking the win, 17-14. Shout out to former Ravens defensive coordinator-turned-head coach Rex Ryan. He's doing big things in the Big Apple.

- 2009 Jets = 2008 Ravens in every way imaginable. Unless they win on Sunday. Then they're the 2009 Jets

-What is up with NFL kickers??? The 2009 NFL season is the official season of NFL kickers missing FGs. During the regular season, kickers made 80.5% of FG attempts, the lowest percentage since 2003. Sean Suisham and Nate Kaeding missed 4 FGs on Sunday alone. For the Cowboys, 6 points didn't mean much, but it could have maintained momentum. For Kaeding (who, by-the-way, was selected to this year's Pro Bowl), he missed 2 FGs that ultimately decided the game's outcome.
Image and video hosting by <span class=
Kaeding also missed FGs in past playoff games against the Jets and the Patriots. If I'm Suisham and Kaeding's teammates, I'd be windmilling out of control until I'm over it. *in Herm Edwards's voice* You get paid to kick the ball- that's it!

*extra point* My final Ode To Rivers of the season.... I still love you!
Image and video hosting by <span class=

-If you haven't checked out Showtime's Inside The NFL, there was a great remix they showed after the regular season was over. Whoever does these remixes is talented. I was amused. Enjoy!

In Case You Missed It: Football Island on 60 Minutes

This Sunday's 60 Minutes had a great feature about the South Pacific island of Samoa being a football haven for the NFL. There are over 65 Samoan players currently in the NFL. It's a great stat, particularly because most Samoans start playing football in high school (they just started little league football). Steelers S Troy Polamalu is one of the most famous Samoans known to fans. The football lover in me thinks it's a great story to watch. The girl in me smiles at the little cuties they feature. Enjoy

Sorry I've been neglecting the blog. This is a very big week for my Ravens, and I think the nervousness has finally set in. Tomorrow is a BIG game for my boys and I get more anxious within each hour. Tomorrow, check out the Gridiron Gals Divisional Football picks, but today check out the Blogs Of The Week:

Pigskin Loving Lady takes a look at former Colts Marvin Harrison case, which has since been re evaluated and now investigated by the Feds. if you haven't heard much about this story, it will low your mind. Check out the details regarding Harrison's alleged involvement in a murder.

Ed The Sports Fan has 2 great articles. The new hire of Pete Carroll to the Seattle Seahawks has fans and media wondering if he will bring back the winning times of the once NFC West champs. ETSF also talks about Carroll's successor at USC, Lane Kiffin, and why he's not mad that Kiffin jumped ship from the Vols and ran to Southern Cal.

MKRob tells us how Colts WR Pierre Garcon is coping with trying to find his family members after the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

Ravens Gab talks about how most people are still eating crow after all saying the Ravens didn't have a chance against New England. Do we have a chance against the Colts, we shall see.

And as always, don't forget to check out my other website, Gridiron Gals. Latest news on Ray Lewis's blogging journey, the Bears season in a nutshell, and more.

When Betting Against The Ravens Goes Wrong

24 star Kiefer Sutherland came to the Davis Letterman with a dress on. When asked about his god awful green ensemble, Sutherland explained that he was so sure New England was going to win this past weekend, that he placed a bet that if they lost, he would wear a dress on The Letterman Show. I'm a HUGE fan of Jack Bauer and the show, 24. But ummmmmm.... I'm an even bigger Ravens fan. Sucks to be you, Mr. Sutherland.

Wild Card Weekend Thoughts

3

Category: , , , , , , , , ,

I'm sure most of you were like me and were plastered to the TV the entire weekend, with your full attention on the NFL Playoffs. Whether it was a blowout, total domination or an OT game, all of the games were good to me. It's the playoffs, so anything that can happen, did happen. Here are my thoughts over the weekend's games:

Ocho Cinco celebrated his birthday on Sat, the same day as his playoff game against the New York Jets. That was pretty much all there was to celebrate though. The Bengals looked dazed and confused, and Palmer looked like a deer in headlights. The Jets beat the Bengals the week before to secure their playoff spot, so they had all the confidence in the world coming into Cincy's house. While Bengals RB Cedric Benson did run wild on a league-leading Jets defense with 169 yards, Gang Green simply made more plays and beat the Bengals convincingly, 24-14. There may have even been an Ocho Cinco tears sighting. But it was hard to tell.

*extra point* How does Mark Sanchez play more like a veteran than Carson Palmer on such a large stage???
Image and video hosting by <span class=
Sanchez has said numerous times that Palmer was someone he looked up to, back from their days in Southern Cali when Sanchez attended Palmer's high school games. But it was Sanchez who was schooling Palmer on Saturday, passing 12/15 for 182 yards and a TD. It was kind of sad to see, the Bengals just can't get right in the playoffs.

The Cowboys.... wow!!! First off, let me congratulate you on your playoff win. It was long overdue. But good lord, who knew you were gonna come out swinging like that?! You made the Eagles look like some regular team that didn't belong in the dance. Even Roy Williams came out to play and caught some good passes, which means he was in RARE form. I'm finally a believer that the Cowboys have a serious chance of representing the NFC come February. They earned it, and Tony Romo had a very good day.

*extra point* I must say, the highlight of the night was McNabb "taunting" the Cowboys fans. I didn't find it taunting at all, I thought it was kinda funny.... But I'm not a Cowboys fan so...........

*2 pt conversion* Okay I'm officially scared............
Image and video hosting by <span class=

There is nothing I love more than what I saw yesterday. The Ravens treated the Patriots like they stole something, and I was like a proud mama, cheesing the entire time. They came to play and they did just that, which was one of the best games the Ravens played the entire season. Of course I wrote a column about it on Gridiron Gals, but I had to show my boys some love over here too. They beat the Darlings of the NFL, there is nothing cooler than that.

*extra point* Shout out to the Ravens fans that went to Boston. Baltimore may not be recognized as a well traveled team, but we do more than alright. Just ask Vince Wilfork.
Image and video hosting by <span class=Image and video hosting by <span class=

By far the best game was the Packers-Cardinals game. It had the most offense out of all the games this weekend. The Pack were down 17 points in the 1st qtr, but found their way fighting back and staying alive in the game, eventually tying up the score 45 all and taking the game to OT. Over 1,000 yards of total offense and 96 totals points from both sides combined. The biggest thing that has me scratching my head, is the Packers were ranked #2 overall in defense prior to yesterday's game, but still managed to give up over 500 yards of offense.

So with such a high scoring, offensive game, imagine every one's surprise when the play ended because of defense. If I didn't see if for myself I, wouldn't have believed it.

Congrats to the Cardinals. That was the most exciting game of the weekend. You earned that win.

*extra point* I kinda feel bad for the Packers. Aaron Rodgers was clearly hit in the face mask which startled him and the fumble then came. I hate ticky tacky calls and giving the QBs extra leniency, but that was a blatant call that was missed. I'd bet money that if Brady or Manning were the guy behind center, three flags would have come out. The officiating this season has been horrific, and it showed again in the OT game.

*2 pt conversion* That being said.... the Packers shouldn't have let them get up 17-0 in the 1st qtr. I'm just saying........

This weekend's matchups are set and ready. The Cardinals travel to the Crescent City to play the Saints while the Ravens go to Indy to play the Colts on Saturday. On Sunday, The Cowboys head to Minnesota and the Jets will be in San Diego to face my boo Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers. I doubt that any of these games will disappoint, unless your team is on the losing end when the game is over. Each team earned the right to be there, so I expect big things for the Divisional Weekend.

*extra point* I found this on Blitz Nation and I couldn't resist.... What in the world is LT doing???? And Why??????

Is The USFL Making A Comeback????

1

Category: , , ,

This morning on Twitter, I made a joke to a fellow follower, regarding a spring football league. I joked that the USFL should make a comeback. I was then given a link by my fellow tweeter @billionairebank. The link??? A website calling themselves the New USFL. And it had the following statement listed:

REDONDO BEACH, CA – The New United States Football League announces plans to launch a professional spring football league to begin in the Spring of 2011. The league’s goal is to have 10-12 teams in the first year of play with teams throughout the United States.

“We have a strong sense of history and believe that the marketplace has demonstrated the desire to have ‘Spring football’,” said New USFL Founder/President MICHAEL DWYER. “The USFL had a strong connection with many of its fans and we hope to re-ignite that passion and pick up where the others left off.”

The league will play traditional stadium-played football with most of the rules being based from the original USFL concepts. The league is also in the process of recruiting its staff and securing sponsorships with announcements to follow in the near future.

“Other leagues have proven that the talent is out there,” Dwyer said. “We want to be the Spring destination of the ultimate football fan who can’t wait for the Fall.”

The league will announce cities that will play in 2011 at a later date, but Dwyer said that former USFL locations would receive strong consideration when selecting where franchises will be placed.

If this is, in fact true, I had no idea this was coming back into existence.

Some folks think this may be watering down the love of the game of football, I see it as merely an option for the spring. Let's be honest, football is America's past time now, and I would think there would be a lot of happy football fans that could see their favorite sport all year around, if they could. If you aren't a huge baseball fan, this could be your go-to sport until the NFL starts back up again.

I recently watch the ESPN 30 for 30 special on the original USFL, and it was a very interesting documentary. I wasn't too familiar with the league because I was too young to remember it. And other than my father's personal accounts on the league, I didn't have a general knowledge of the USFL. But the ESPN special did bring to light, how the USFL brought in high profile players to build their league that started with instant success, as well as showing their demise after their 3rd season. Here's a clip of it, if you missed it:

I'm definitely intrigued to see is someone can compete with the NFL. While I love football, the NFL has way too many rules and awful officiating. It's really starting to push me towards college football, the worse it gets.

I hope this is true. I'd like to see where this goes. Good luck to the NEW USFL. I'll definitely be watching.

Nik Pace Speaks Out On Legal Matter With Braylon Edwards

Former America's Next Top Model contestant Nik Pace tells her side of the story regarding the situation and paternity suit against New York Jets WR Braylon Edwards. Reports came out that Pace sued Edwards in New York, instead of Georgia (she's from Atlanta), in order to receive more money. Even Edwards attorney stated how Edwards filed papers to declare being the legal father but Pace allegedly objected.

Pace has finally broken her silence. Through her own attorney, Pace tells her side of the story in this ordeal. Here's the official statement:

"It is unfortunate that Mr. Braylon Edwards and his legal counsel have gone beyond the scope of addressing a very personal matter privately and professionally and have released false statements about Ms. Nik Pace to members of the media. It has been very upsetting for Ms. Pace to have to defend her character against the deliberately false allegations brought against her.

"The fact of the matter is that Mr. Edwards and Ms. Pace shared an intimate relationship for over two years. Over this time the relationship involved meaningful times spent with friends and family and resulted in the birth of their son. Mr. Edwards' recent actions do not speak to the positive image he has portrayed in recent media reports. Contrary to statements released by Mr. Edwards and his attorney on December 18, 2009, he has not acted in the best interest of his child. In reality, Mr. Edwards has barely acknowledged the birth of his son or his upbringing.

"At no time was Mr. Edwards refused the right to attend the birth of his son. Ms. Pace encouraged him to do so. Additionally, Mr. Edwards has yet to sign his son's birth certificate making it impossible for his son to have his last name, Edwards as Georgia law requires. It is also completely and unequivocally false that Ms. Pace has ever requested a specified settlement from Mr. Edwards in the amount of up to $70,000.00 per month. As it relates to Ms. Pace's residency, she is a legal resident of the state of New York and has resided and worked as a professional model in the tri-state area since 2006. Reports that she resides in Georgia are false. Ms. Pace gave birth where she received family support, just as many women do.

"In closing, Ms. Pace truly preferred for she and Mr. Edwards to come to an amicable agreement regarding the care of their child without the involvement of attorneys, but it is Mr. Edwards who opted otherwise by initiating a legal process. Ms. Pace has and will continue to limit the disclosure of personal and sensitive information in the best interest of her child and asks that the media takes into account the facts regarding the situation before drawing hurtful conclusions that further support the disingenuous statements. Ms. Pace's only wish is that Mr. Edwards accepts the shared responsibility of raising their son and chooses to become the loving father his son deserves."

Hopefully they can come to a compromise. There's a child involved who needs BOTH parents to love him and take care of him.
