Things That Make You Go Hmmm.....................

Category: , , , , , ,

Last week, the Most Hated Athletes list was released and the Top 5 of the list was as follows:

1. Michael Vick*

2. Tiger Woods

3. Terrell Owens*

4. Chad Ochocinco*

5. Kobe Bryant

As you can see, not only are all 5 players of African-American decent, but 3 out of 5 of them are NFL players. Hmmmmmmm......................

In contrast, the Most Liked Athletes list was released and list showed the following:

1. Michael Jordan

2. Apolo Anton Ohno

3. Peyton Manning*

4. Steve Nash

5. Joe Montana*

One African-American (who is retired, BTW) and two NFL players, one of which no longer plays and hasn't in quite sometime.

Oh....... okay...............................

Does anyone else see something wrong with this picture? The race situation is another topic for another day and I'm going to try my harder to avoid that topic, so let's stick to specifically the NFL players selected. While I understand that some folks will never like Michael Vick again, due to his dog fighting fiasco, what did Chad OchoCinco and Terrell Owens do to you?

I'm probably the last person to say that I love Terrell Owens. He annoys me and acts like a guy who lacks deeply in social skills. But do I hate the guy? No. Chad OchoCinco is well liked by many of his opponents who he trash talks to weekly, so why is the love so rare amongst fans? Neither of them have been arrested, convicted or had allegations toward them. Yet they are Top 5 in most hated?

What I found interesting was that a guy like Ben Roethlisberger was not listed in the Top 5 Most Hated. He did make the list at #8, however he's been accused of sexual misconduct twice in one year, yet is ranked lower than 2 guys who have done nothing wrong off the football field. Where they do that at?

Also noted, Brett Favre was listed #8 in the Most Like Athletes list. As a former Favre Stan, I can admit that after the Green Bay fiasco (in which I totally sided w/ Green Bay and how they handled it), I became less and less of a fan of his. And after the yearly going back and forth of, "I'm retiring... wait! No I'm not", he inched more and more on my, "Players I Dislike" list.Maybe I'm the only person that doesn't care a whole lot for divas and bitchassness. Who knew!

The NFL is the cream of the crop in American sports, followed by the NBA. These players are put on pedestals. Things they do off-the-field are just as much newsworthy as the plays they make on-the-field. I understand that majority of the players we see are black, but I'm a bit baffled by this list. What say you?

Things that make you go, Hmmmmm.......................................

Terrell Owens- Go Sitchoazz DOWN!!!!

I've never been a big Terrell Owens fan, until I started watching the T.O. Show. I always perceived Owens to be a egotistical maniac who never accepts responsibility and causes nothing but trouble. However, watching his show made me see why he was the way he was and for that, I became sympathetic and even started to like him a little. But not anymore.

Regarding how he thought his career should have gone, Owens told USA Today in an interview:

"I know hands-down I'd be close to Jerry Rice's records if I had been with quality quarterbacks like he had.He had Joe Montana and he finished with Steve Young. That wasn't a dropoff.

"Say I had been with a guy like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Drew Brees all of my career. Are you kidding me?"

Are YOU kidding ME?!

This is the same guy who had Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb and Tony Romo as the guys throwing to him during his career. I'm not gonna even count Steve Young, but if you want to add him for general purposes, bring him in the convo too.

Garcia and McNabb were Pro Bowl caliber players when Owens played for them. While Romo was just starting to progress, Owens still caught over 3,000 yards and 36 TDs while in Dallas.

Remember, this is the same guy that blocked a trade to Baltimore, because Kyle Boller was the QB. Not that I blame him- Boller was pretty bad- but to say the other QBs he's played for affected his career numbers is pretty laughable to me. Owens is crying again...... I guess we having given him any attention since he played on the lowly Bills last season.

This is the time when Kita and Mo (his publicists) need to step in and tell him to STFU. With the QBs he's managed to have, he's 3rd All-Time in receiving yards as well as TDs. Clearly his career numbers can't be THAT bad if he's right up there with Rice. Nothing wrong with shooting for the moon, but to throw your players under the bus is classless.

Terrell Owens, Sitchoazz Down!

NFL Week 3 Recap And Thoughts

-The Cleveland Browns may be this year's Detroit Lions.. that is all

-The Redskins loss to Detroit means one thing... time to place bets on, when do you think Jim Zorn will be fired. So far, I lost. I said he wouldn't make it to the plane.

-Congrats to the Detroit Lions and their victory. That locker room speech by coach Jim Schwartz was emotional. And the fact that the team went back out and celebrated with the fans means something.
Photobucket
The city of Detroit deserved a win (something they haven't had in almost 2 years from the Lions) and finally got it. If I were a Lions fan, I probably would've cried. The nightmare is over guys... congrats!!!

*bonus* Why the hell was Tom Cruise there?????? Was he supposed to be the Lucky Leprechaun for the Redskins???
Photobucket

-Okay, is anyone in Baltimore in awe that Kyle Boller threw for 2 TDs and 0 INTs for the Rams????

-I have to hear about Favre for another week after yesterday's dramatic win over the 49ers. It was a great play, and the old Favre that I used to know and love came out yesterday. While Vikings fans are going bizerk about it, 9ers fans were livid. On twitter, my girl @ninerchick05 tweeted,

"that [loss] hurts so bad..I welling up with tears in my eyes and that has never happened to me before"

I felt her pain. I still do. But the 9ers looked good. They will rebound. Hold your head up, chica!!!

-Something isn't right with this Pats team. Although I picked them to win against the Falcons, they just aren't as dominant as the Pats of teams past. Is this the year we finally see the powers shift??? As The NFL Turns...........

-If you told me before the season started, that the Titans would be 0-3, I would have called you a liar... and then I would have had to apologize to you 3 weeks later.

- The Jets are for real. Sanchez is for real.

- Miami is not.

- Thank you, thank you, thank you, Cincy!! Aside from Favre's score, that TD at the end of the Bengals/Steelers was the highlight of my evening.
Photobucket
Yes, I know they are also division opponents, but that was a HUGE win. I always have a soft spot for Cincy because of Marvin Lewis, and I like Carson Palmer. To show they can compete against the world champs (and help me out in my football picks) was great, especially after a sucky first half!

-P.S.- my enthusiasm will change drastically in about 2 weeks, when we play them.

- Dear Seattle Seahawks. Please get rid of those Gawd awful green jerseys. It looks like a kindergartner designed it. Signed, a now blind NFL Chick!
Photobucket

- The Broncos are 3-0, and no one cares. But 3-0 is still 3-0, and people need to start paying attention. Their defense looks good, and they have Knowshon and Marshall/Royal on offense.

- JaMarcus Russell is a waste of good football space. All of that raw talent and can't do anything with it. The Raiders should be 3-0 easily. Sinking the ship over one guy is stupid. Trust me, Al Davis... we did that in Baltimore with Boller. Please don't do that to your team. Let Jeff Garc... oh I forgot, he got outta dodge already.

-Will Peyton Manning ever stop being good???? I want him to sit his azz down!

-Thank you, Tampa Bay, for making my sympathy pick look foolish. Never again!

-Why do people pick on T.O.? I thought that his reaction after Buffalo's loss to New Orleans was fine. He was clearly upset, but the media kept egging him on. T.O. kept his cool, tight lips and all, and made it clear he wasn't gonna feed into it.
Photobucket
Then here comes Rodney Harrison calling T.O. a clown (sorry, I giggled at that). Then T.O. went OFF on twitter by saying the following to Harrison:

"I could less about Rodney Harrison! Anybody tht using steroids, yes STEROIDS rodney, is a cheater & cheated the game!

"Is tht Y u used steroids b/c u were worried about ur stats or ws it b/c u were losing it? Lol! U're a loser & a cheater? Got any steroid ...

"Hey rodney! Send me sum steroids 2 the Bills facility next week!

"Since I kno the media reads my tweets, will sum1 ask rodney how long the cycles take b4 I feel results of the steroids whn he sends em? Lol!"

Damn T.O.! I know you were provoked, but over being called a clown? I could think of a million names that are worse than clown. And think to yourself, is Rodney Harrison even worth it??? His job on Football Night in America is to be Simon Cowell-esque and stir up things (which he does very well). You did nothing but add fuel to the fire. T.O., setting you off is too easy. I know it, fans know it and so does Rodney and you did exactly what we thought. Although I think you handled yourself very well during the post game press conference, you gotta pick your battles.

T.O. + Buffalo= OH NO!!!!

The big NFL news over the weekend was none other than- Terrell Owens AKA T.O......AGAIN! On Saturday, Owens signed a 1 year contract with the Buffalo Bills, for $6.5 million.

Buffalo? Really?! Bills fans better get their popcorn ready, add salt and butter to taste.
Photobucket

This signing was one that I did not see coming, and I'm sure most would agree. Not that Owens was signed so fast, but the Bills was probably one of the last teams I expected him to sign to. That being said, based on the fact that it's a one year deal, this may not be a bad fit for either team.

I said "oh no" in my title of the blog, but that doesn't have to mean a bad thing. T.O. has a tendency to bring out the good, the bad and the ugly of each team. It all depends how much of the bad and ugly a team wants to deal with, in order to get the good.

So does this relationship work??? Let's review the good, the bad and the ugly of this recent signing.

The Good- T.O. is an extremely hard worker when it comes to football. His presence automatically makes his team better, because defenders have to game plan for him. In Buffalo, they also have a pretty good WR in Lee Evans. This makes Buffalo already a better team than last year, because they have a massive weapon of destruction....on the field that is.

The Bills are in a division that is up-and-coming to be a competitive one for some time. The Jets just hired for Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan as head coach and in the process, by stacking up their defense. The Dolphins did a complete 180, going from a 1-15 team in 2007 to a playoff contender in 2008. And the Pats..... are the Pats. They will be in the hunt every year, as long as Belichick is the coach. So where did that leave the Bills??? They started off HOT last year, going 5-1 before collapsing and finishing 7-9 and last in the AFC East.

The signing also would bring in more money by adding more fans in the stands, especially when the team plays in Toronto this upcoming season. Fans want to see the controversial player, whether they love him or hate him

I can see how this works out for all parties involved. The one year deal means T.O. will be on his best behavior.
Photobucket

The Bad- The last time I checked, the Bills had Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB. Neither are top tier at their position. Edwards wasn't the same once he suffered a concussion during last season. And Fitzpatrick did an okay job replacing Carson Palmer in Cincy, but he's a QB that runs under pressure. (sidenote: JP Losman is no longer with the Bills. He was on Kyle Boller status to me anyway. Waste of a 1st round pick). That brews trouble in T.O.'s World.

You see, T.O. loves the ball, like most WRs do. If Edwards and Fitzpatrick continue to struggle, expect T.O. to have B.O.
Photobucket

Excuse me, wrong saying... I mean, expect T.O. to be PO'd... as in, pissed off. We all have seen this before. Edwards is still a young QB, and having someone constantly in your ear asking for the ball could lead to bad things. Throwing balls in double and triple coverage, making poor decisions on the field, just to name a couple. This could possibly have a negative affect on the 3rd year QB's growth. Hopefully, Edwards won't have this issue. But if he does..... it'll be a long season

The Ugly- Man, where do I begin???? In San Francisco, he basically called QB Jeff Garcia gay.
Photobucket

In Philly, he turned on QB Donovan McNabb and got into a physical altercation with former Eagle Hugh Douglas.
Rick James Pictures, Images and Photos

In Dallas he disregarded Jason Garrett's game plan, accused Tony Romo of scheming plays behind his back, and almost got into a fight with TE Jason Witten, which eventually led to his departure
Photobucket

T.O. is clearly not a legal liability. But in the past, he has become a team liability. There are a good amount of folks that defend him. But his track record speaks for itself. Buffalo is his 4th team. His numbers say future hall-of-famer, but his team hopping says trouble maker. Most teams believes he cares about no one but himself and his numbers. Add that with the fact that, given his great ability to play WR he still hasn't won a Super Bowl, GMs tend to pass him over.

T.O. is 35 years old, he can still play at a high level. Although he was ranked in the Top 5 for dropped passes, he also averaged 10 TD's in each of his 3 seasons with Dallas. He has least 2 to 3 years left in the tank to play. It's quite possible that T.O. plays on yet another team next year, since he only received a 1 year deal with the Bills. So I expect him to get one more contract, possibly a 2 year deal, before he hangs up his cleats for good.

This may work out for everyone involved. T.O. gets to audition for real playoff contenders with this upcoming season, while the Bills could drastically get better on offense (they ranked 25th in overall offense last season). And in the meantime, they can make sweet, beautiful TD's together.

T.O. is a Bill, but he's still T.O.

Only time will tell............
