In Case You Missed It- Michael Oher On 20/20

Last night, 20/20 did a story about Ravens OT Michael Oher, the player whose real life experiences created the hit movie, "The Blind Side". The 20/20 doc showed more than the background story about Oher. It shows what he's doing now, the guy that played him in the movie who, ironically, went through a similar ordeal, and another Memphis child who is going down a similar path as Oher.

I love this story, it shows that there are people who are willing to people a kid, no matter the race, gender or financial state. 20/20 did a good idea of showing his path to where he is today. In case you missed it, here are the videos, courtesy of ABC.

2010 Pro Bowl Loves, Snubs and "Huh"s

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The 2010 Pro Bowl roster is set and ready for the game set to be on January 31st game in Miami. If you haven't checked out the roster, click here to see if your favorite players made the list. Of course, with every Pro Bowl selection, there is always some controversy.

I looked at the roster and I saw some faces that belonged, some that should have been there but weren't, and some that made me scratch my head and ask why?

Pro Bowl Loves-
This is to the players that FINALLY are getting their due props. And of course... I have to start with my favorite individual player, Philip Rivers. Rivers actually should have been a Pro Bowl selection last season, when he led the league in QB rating and TD passes. But I think Rivers new found humble mentality has allowed folks to look past his feisty attitude and see that Rivers is the real deal (what have I been saying all along???). This is Rivers 1st Pro Bowl and we should see many more.

Ravens DT Haloti Ngata FINALLY has reached Pro Bowl status, but with all of the talented NT/DT in the AFC, Ngata was always snubbed. Not this year, he is finally getting the recognition he deserves.

Bills S Jairus Byrd was a surprise to me, but after further review, it's not at all.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
While I don't catch many Buffalo Bills games, my sis Pigskin Loving Lady is a huge Bills fan (pray for her, y'all). She told me he was snubbed before and that he had been injured. But now I understand her lobbying for his spot. Byrd is tied for the most league INTs in 9, along with Darren Sharper and Asante Samuel. That's more than well known DBs such as Charles Woodson and Darrelle Revis. Byrd is on a bad team, but good thing that people recognize that he deserves to be in the Pro Bowl.

DeSean Jackson as both a WR and a Kick Return Specialist is very deserving. I voted for Jackson as well as Josh Cribbs for both positions, because they both deserved to be recognized for everything they do. Jackson was the only one that received both, and he deserves it. On Twitter this morning, Jackson said the following:

I'm soooo blessed 2 be meeeh real talk... no human has ever been voted for WR and PR in NFL. History... I guess it is true I'm not HUMAN LOL

Congrats to you! You deserve it and you are AWESOME!

Pro Bowl Snubs-
Vincent Jackson of the San Diego Chargers is at the top of my list, by far.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
And that's no disrespect to the other AFC wide receivers that made it, because they are all great. But Jackson is a HUGE part of why San Diego can go down field. Jackson is a top 10 WR in receiving yards, average yards per catch and pass 20+ yards. Jackson is a stud and should be in Miami. Maybe he will be, the week after....

Jets RB Thomas Jones, I thought, was a shoe in. Jones is 4th in rushing in the NFL and 3rd in TDs from his position. All three RBs selected can catch in the backfield, something Jones hasn't done much of, this season (10 rec., 58 yards). My guess is that's why he's not going to Miami. But as a rusher, Jones is a punisher. He also deserves to be there.

*edit* Upon further review of this list, London Fletcher of the Redskins has to be added. This guy has been snubbed for years and it continued this year. Why this guy never gets the recognition he deserves is beyond me. This guy is 2nd in the league in total tackles. Get him in a Pro Bowl!

Pro Bowl "Huh"s- Ed Reed of the Baltimore Ravens.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I love me some Ed, but he's had a much quiet year, from a year ago when he led the league in INTs. Add that along with the fact that Reed hasn't played a game since 11/29 due to injury, and I'm sure he's in based on name alone. Not that he's not Pro Bowl worthy, just not this season.

Champ Bailey from the Broncos also gets a big "huh". I'm sure his leadership and namesake are huge reasons why he's there. But Bailey hasn't lit anyone up either. The Bengals Jonathon Joseph has played very good D this year and is just as deserving to be there as Bailey. Maybe it's just me....

Congrats to everyone that made the 2009 Pro Bowl. To those that didn't make it but should, keep ya head up and work harder for next year. While people say they hate watching the Pro Bowl, I always watch. Mainly for the sideline interviews and the goofing off of the players. Over the years, I've seen a couple of good football moments in watching the Pro Bowl and I hate having to resort to highlights to see what I missed. If the Pro Bowl is a no watch for you, just remember you'll miss plays like this:

It's A Celebration For The NFL Chick!

Today, a star was re-born... on December 29, 2008. I re-launched my blog site. Some of you may not have known, but I have been blogging since 2005, when I was a regular blogger at Fox Sports. I've evolved so much and grown in the last 4 years. Hell, even within the last year of of re-launching the blog, I've grown.

This all started because I love to write and I loved football. So one day I was bored, and I decided to use some spare time to write my thoughts for others to see. I have a long way to go, but the fact that people enjoy what I'm thinking is a blessing within itself. And a year later, I've grown followers and even members of my blogging family, who I know always has my back. I asked my blog family to join me in celebrating my special day with me. Here's the nice (or smart ass) things they had to say about my blog:

Happy Anniversary to The NFL Chick!

Thanks to Twitter, I found several ladies whose knowledge of the game of football impressed me greatly. It was on Twitter (where we first "met") that I happened to see your site. And it was there that I really found out just how much you knew! You could teach some guys I know a thing or two about the game. It truly was a different experience for me, as most of the females I come in contact with either don't know or don't care about football at all.

The first post of yours that I read back in April actually had nothing to do with football. It was a post about Orioles opening day, and it was where I made my first comment. After that, and your post on the "Attack Of The Front Runners," I was hooked. It is great to find someone who shares fandom of many of the teams that I like, and is willing to stick with them win, lose or draw, and isn't afraid to call them out when they suck, or praise them when they do well. You and I often agree about a lot, and even if we didn't, I would still make time to read your blog, I enjoy it and I make time to read your latest posts. I may not always comment, but I make an effort to see your work.

And while I could go on and on about what a great person you are, and your great personality, and commend you (and Jos) for the Gridiron Gals site and your weekly NFL picks video, this is supposed to be about the site that started it all-The NFL Chick! So I wish you and the site a Happy Anniversary and here's to many more and greater successes in the years to come.

From Steelergurl:

Congratulations Reeta!!!!!

I love that your blog isn't a girlie-girl blog. You know a ton about the game and I have learned so much from you. We share our pain twice every season when our teams battle it out and yet we still remain friends!! I love reading everything you write - you show passion and commitment to your boys in purple - you are someone after my own heart!

Congratulations on a year in the making!!

From Pigskin Loving Lady:

Congratulations on your anniversary!! Your luck has been awakened and now it’s time for you to blossom. I appreciate your knowledge of the game, you’ve taught me so much this year!! You’re an AWESOME partner and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you!! THE NFL CHICK RAWKS!!

And last but not least, Ed The Sports Fan:

First off, congratulations on the anniversary of THE NFL Chick! I'm supremely proud of you and all of your success, you definitely deserve it!

Now...as far as a favorite "moment" of TNC, well...I've never had more appreciation, amusement, and satisfaction then watching this video of Reeta being featured by the good folks over at Sideline Pass as to her love for the game of football.
http://www.sidelinepass.com/reeta-the-nfl-chick/

Reeta The NFL Chick from Sideline Pass on Vimeo.

People, Reeta loves the COHNTACKT, she loves the PHYSICAL COHNTACKT!!! Haha, I've been hooked ever since.

I've received so much love and encouragement from so many people, and I appreciate each and everyone of you. From my family, friends and my twitter fam, who is the absolute best group of people to follow.

Here we are, 3 days away from 2010, and I promise, I'm going to continue to evolve, bring more to the site, and even give my baby a makeover. She's out of her crawling stages, now it's time for her to walk.

Thanks again for the support, and let's hope I have many, many more birthdays/anniversaries ahead!

PS- Ed The Sports Fan, I'ma slap you for that video :)

NFL Week 16 Recap And Thoughts

Category: , , ,

Here it is, Tuesday.. and I'm still heartbroken about my Ravens loss to the Steelers. I know what you all are thinking... that I need to get over it and move on. And I want to. But Sunday's game was a reflection of this entire season for my squad. They have constantly beat themselves and has given games away. I don't think I've ever felt such heartache in one season from an above .500 team, EVER! I could go on and on, but I already expressed my feelings yesterday on Gridiron Gals. Check it out.

-The saying, "It's not how you start, but how you finish" is a tried and true statement in the NFL. Two of the hottest teams at the beginning of the season in New Orleans and Vikings, have cooled off tremendously in the past few weeks. The Saints have lost two games in a row, to the Cowboys and the lowly Bucs. The Vikings have lost for the 3rd time in 4 games and lost last night to the Bad News Bears. I know both teams lost to division rivals this weekend. But let's be real here. They both have the personnel to blow them out of the water. The Bears and Bucs had a combined 7 wins going into their games with the potential #1 and #2 seeds. My, have times changed.

*extra point* I don't know if my new country bumpkin, Philip Rivers, has my nose wide open or what. But this season has been a total 180 for my feelings towards Brett Favre. Three years ago, I was still one of the biggest Brett Favre apologists I knew. I have his biography and DVD for crying out loud. But watching last night's game, I wanted to see him lose, and I have no idea why the haterism is so strong.

Maybe it's because Favre has been a true diva since he "retired" from Green Bay and wanted to come back, or him being able to show up on rosters whenever he wants. But he irks me now. I'm glad crybaby Cutler beat the Vikings last night. There, I said it! Who gon' check me, boo?!

-Funniest Play Of The Week: By far Saints owner Tom Benson's false celebration then reaction to the missed FG in the Bucs-Saints game. Care of BSO, this vid is hilarious. To see the 5 different degrees of his face/body language is hilarious

-WTF Play Of The Week: The entire Cowboys/Redskins game. I love football, I do. But watching people get beat down is not fun. By halftime I turned my attention to Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Yeah, that's how bored I became.

- Am I the only person that wonders what the Panthers would be like had Matt Moore been put in earlier as the QB??? They have played very aspiring football since he's been behind center. But the politics of the NFL wouldn't allow Moore to come in sooner because of Delhomme's new contract extension. Amazing.

-While I understand why Colts coach Jim Caldwell took his starters out with the game in reach, I think most people think that was the worst move possible. Let's look at the Colts previous playoff history. Every time they have rested players before the end of the season and had a first round bye, they have lost in the playoffs. The one time the Colts won the Superbowl, they played the entire season and also had to play during wild card weekend. That kept the momentum going for this team to finally hoist a Lombardi trophy. For the players to get almost 3 weeks of rest is ridiculous. No matter what people say, it does slow momentum and can create timing issues with the offense. Peyton Manning looked pissed during the post game conference and I don't blame him. Play for a chance at history. Hell, play for a chance to shut Mercury Morris the hell up. But now we have to see Morris for yet another year with the same antics. Thanks Caldwell, thanks for nothing!

*extra point* Did anyone else feel sorry for backup QB Curtis Painter? I wanted to give his baby face a hug after the game. He was thrown to the wolves against a very good Jets D.

-Shout out to the Broncos, Dolphins, Jags and Titans for losing this weekend to keep the Ravens in a position of "win it and in it" playoff scenario.

-What happened to the Giants? And what happened to the guys that were 6-0??? Man it got ugly in the Meadowlands quick.

-I think Philly and San Diego are playing some of the best football right now. I wouldn't be surprised if one, or both of these teams could be in Miami come February 7th representing their respected conferences.

*extra point* Philip Rivers for MVP!

Okay, so we all know the holiday song, "The 12 Days of Christmas". Well, that song's played out like the Roger Rabbit dance. I've decided to come up with my own song, title, "The 12 Plays of Xmas", dedicated to all things that happened in the NFL thus far. Special thanks to Pigskin Loving Lady who helped me bring this idea together. Love ya!

Remember, you have to sing it like the song, to get the feel. I'm sure some of you are a little slow... because there's an extra word or two added to make it seem off. But speed up a couple of words to make it fit, mmmmkay?!

One the 12 Plays of Xmas, that football gave to me:

NFL Week 15 Recap and Thoughts

The NFL is becoming harder and harder to decipher. If you play in an office pool and have the chance to win, you're winning off of luck alone. It's not about what you know about football anymore. You'd have a better chance choosing by uniforms as opposed to matchups. I really hate cliches', but the truest cliche to date is "Any Given Sunday", and that's definitely the case. Teams you expect to dominate their opponents, end up losing. Teams you expect to lose badly, end up winning. I don't know what to believe anymore. The NFL is a major crap shoot.

With that said, I love the parity in the league. Thursday night at 7:30, the Ravens are out of the playoff picture, looking in. At 7:30pm on Sunday, they moved up to the #5 seed. Special shout outs to the Broncos, Jags, Jets and Dolphins for making all of this happen. We couldn't do it without you.

Good bless the NFL!

Best Play Of The Week- Hands down Mike Wallace's TD to give the Steelers the go ahead score to win the game against the Packers, as time expired. Dude is gone to the School of Santonio Holmes, it was eerily similar to the Super Bowl catch.

WTF Play Of The Week- By far the Washington Redskins fake FG attempt in the Monday Night game against the Giants. The sad thing is, they actually practiced this play at some point. Someone help pack Jim Zorn's bags, please and thanks.

Upset Of The Week-
Dallas beating the then-undefeated Saints. No one gave the Cowboys a chance, including a few faithfuls. But in the end, they came out to play, and dominated majority of the game. Tony Romo looked as poised as I've ever seen all year, throwing for 312 yards and a TD.

Maybe the December curse is over...... well shall see what the last 2 weeks bring.

The More things Change, The More They Stay The Same-
The Colts are still undefeated, beating the Jaguars in a very entertaining 35-31 win on Thursday night. Although I needed the Colts to beat the Jags to help the Ravens in their playoff spot, I secretly wanted Jacksonville to lay the smackdown on their candy asses (sorry I was watching old WWF clips of The Rock on youtube). I've said it once and I'll say it again, I hate the idea of undefeated/winless teams in today's NFL. It's kind of sacrilegious to me, especially with the parity in the league. The Colts winning is nothing new to me.

*extra point* I would give ANYTHING to make Mercury Morris go away and never come back. Every time there is an undefeated team in December, Morris pops up on SportsCenter and has to make his case on why the Dolphins are still the best. He's like the drunk uncle at your family reunion... only now it's gone from funny to annoying. Remember this rap a few years ago?!

Everyone thought the Vikings were ready to make a Super Bowl run this season, but is Favre starting to wear down?! Look, dude is 40 years old, which is like 210 in football years. The Vikes are 1-2 in December and lost to a dismal Panthers team. We saw this last season, when #4 struggled the last 5 weeks of the season with the Jets and was later diagnosed as having a torn rotator cuff. Last year I heard excuses about Favre not being protected, and I heard the same thing after Sunday night's loss. While it is a valid point, is it safe to say that Old Man Favre simply could be breaking down physically and can't play the entire season, like he used to???? I'm curious to see how the Vikings fare in the playoffs.

The Broncos lost to the Raiders. Ouch!

The Browns lost Brady Quinn for the year, but everyone knows the REAL star on that team is Joshua Cribbs. Can you imagine how poor this team would be without this guy on their roster??? Someone better pay that man this offseason, he's playing lights out football right now.

Final word of the day- Shout out to the Bengals for playing their hearts out in Sunday's game against the Chargers. Although they didn't win the game, they played their hearts out, in lieu of the sudden loss of their teammate Chris Henry. The Bengals came from behind to tie the score up at 24 in the 4th quarter but Nate Kaeding's 52-yard field goal with 3 seconds left gave the Chargers the game. Keep fighting Cincy. Chris Henry is watching over you guys.

In Case You Missed It: Ray Lewis On NFL Countdown

Category: , , ,

In case you missed, there was a segment on Ray Lewis during ESPN's NFL Countdown yesterday. It shows Lewis, along with his trainer, working out with the Baltimore City Police Dept, going through the roughest parts of Baltimore, and helping homeless people and former drug addicts through workout sessions.

It's a very good segment. Say what you will about Lewis, but I think he has matured into a great human being. He acknowledges that his murder trial helped him realize he needed to do this work. Kudos to Ray.

Patriots at Bills- I'm inclined to pick the Bills in an upset. Too much drama in NE. Moss's feelings were hurt last week so he didn't show up. Adalius Thomas making swipes at Big Bad Billy... all the makings for an upset. But I can't do it. Pats it is.

Cardinals at Lions- Cards. No explanation needed

Browns at Chiefs- Taking the Browns because they have looked better at the stretch of the season, while the Chiefs have struggled.

Texans at Rams- Texans all day.

Falcons at Jets- Even with Matty Ice and Michael Turner possibly coming back, I think the Jets will take care of business. The weather will be ugly, no domes for the Falcons to get comfy in, and Giants Stadium is very windy, it'll be hard for them. I'll take Gang Green

Bears at Ravens- The Ray Rice Show Pt 2. Ravens

Raiders at Broncos- Would like a Raiders upset, but if JaMarcus Russell is playing all of that goes out of the window. Broncos

Buccaneers at Seahawks- Neither team are going to the playoffs, so do we really care at this point??? Seahawks

Vikings at Panthers- The Panthers are going to look to play spoiler. But I think the Vikes will be fine. I'll take them to continue their playoff push

The E4GP Holiday Bowling Event featuring Ravens RB Ray Rice was this past Monday night in Baltimore, to help raise money for the Sintia Mesa Foundation as well as the Sisters Empowerment Foundation. The event, which took place at Mustang Alley in downtown Baltimore, raised over $1500 and turned out to be a complete success.

While I was late and didn't get a chance to bowl, the lanes were packed with folks, including Ravens players and other stars. There was standing room only available, all to give back to a wonderful cause. In case you missed it, here are a few pics:

Bengals WR Chris Henry passed away this morning, after an alleged domestic dispute with his fiancee'. Henry was 26 years young. This is an absolute tragic situation, not only for the Bengals organization, but for the NFL as well.

Henry leaves 3 young children behind, as well as his fiancee', Loleini Tonga, who Henry once told a newspaper that she was responsible for helping him turn his life around.

This is a huge loss for the Bengals, who already suffered tragedy when defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer's wife unexpectedly passed away earlier in the season.

Chris Henry was always athletic, and was a pain the AFC North's ass. No matter what you thought about him, you could never say he couldn't play the game. Henry was overshadowed by teammates Chad Ochocinco and TJ Houshmandzadeh, but as a slot receiver he was a DB's worst nightmare. I've seen Henry do work against the Ravens many of times, and he was a great talent.

My prayers go out to the Henry family. This was a kid who had a troubled past but finally found peace and was consistent on using his second chance to the fullest by turning his life around. Not only did the league lose a brother, but a father, son and friend has been lost from this.

R.I.P. Chris Henry

Vinny's Gone, But Was He Really The Problem?

0

Category: , , , ,

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Living in the DMV area, you have to acknowledge the Redskins. Although I'm a Ravens fan, the Redskins stadium is less than 40 miles away from M&T Bank Stadium, where the Ravens call home. So it is no surprise that I received emails and Facebook messages this morning regarding this morning's news. The people in Washington, D.C. couldn't have been anymore happier.

ESPN 980 in DC first reported that Vinny Cerrato, Executive VP of football operations, has resigned from his role with the Washington Redskins.

In a statement released by the team, Cerrato said, "We agreed that the franchise needs someone different in this position. I'm thankful to Dan Snyder and other members of his ownership team for the opportunities I've been given over the years."

For a lot of people in the area, this is great news. Fans have wanted a real GM to come in and bring in quality free agents as well as draft good players. But in all honesty, was Cerrato the real problem? I beg to differ if you say yes. This could mean nothing.

You see, Vinny is the fallout guy. He's always been known to be a "Yes Man" to owner Daniel Snyder, who's been working with the organization since Snyder bought the team 10 years ago. Snyder has not allowed anyone to come into this organization and make executive football decisions without his approval.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Remember, Snyder, hired Jim Zorn to be an offensive coordinator before even hiring a head coach. While Snyder eventually promoted Zorn to run the team, most head coaches bring in their own staff to run the team, yet an offensive AND defensive coordinator were in place prior to filling the head coaching vacancy.

Snyder is also a "win now" type of owner. He's been known to trade good draft picks for players, and loves to spend money on big name free agents to bring in the fans, as opposed to building from within. Remember Deion Sanders? Jeff George?? Adam Archuleta??? And although the Redskins picked up a future star in Brian Orakpo in this year's draft, he still did the Snyder-like thing, by bringing in DT Albert Haynesworth AKA the $100 million-dollar man. Haynesworth has been plagued with injury this season.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

While Cerrato's resignation seems like a great notion, the fact remains that he did as he was told. Can Snyder allow a person with a great resume as a talent evaluator, finally come in and take over the team without the little-big man looking over his shoulder and adding his own input? That remains to be seen. In my mind, Cerrato is the scapegoat. But unless Snyder can bring in a Holmgren/Shanahan/Parcells type person to run the team fully without being a high paid gopher, then nothing's changed. Hopefully, he's taking strides to make some philosophical changes and relinquish some power over the team. Ahhhh, if only life can be so simple.

So long Cerrato. Who got next in the Redskins organization??

(-10)Saints at Falcons- No Matty Ice means no chance in hell. Sorry Falcons fans. I'm staying on the Saints bandwagon this week

Bills at (-1)Chiefs- I wan to pick the Chiefs, but the Bill shave a better defense. Gonna ride with the Bills on this one.

Panthers at (-14)Patriots- I'm picking the Pats, but with the Panthers run game, I expect this to be pretty close. Closer than Vegas thinks, at least.

(-3)Jets at Buccaneers- Oh hell, why not. This is my emotional pick of the week. The Tampa Bay Bucs!

Dolphins at (-3)Jaguars- Even though the Jags are 7-5, I yawn every time I see/hear their name. I mean no harm, really.... they just bore me. Reminds me of the Ravens games BF-Before Flacco. I'm taking Miami just cause.

Lions at (-14)Ravens- Picking the Ravens, but I'm not 100% confident in this pick. Daunte Culpepper is expected to start... usually veteran QBs coming off the bench can wreck havoc when they get that shot. But we're at home under our elements, so I'll take it my home team.

Seahawks at (-7)Texans- Every time I pick Houston, they lay a fat one on me. Maybe picking against them will help. I'm taking Seattle.

Rams at (-13)Titans- The Steven Jackson and Chris Johnson Show. Whoever racks up the most rushing yards, wins. I'm betting on CJ. Titans, it is!

Redskins at (-1)Raiders- Sorry Skins fans, I cannot pick against Oakland in the Black Hole. If Philly and Cincy couldn't pull out a win there, what makes you think Washington can??? DAAAA RAAAAAIIIIIIDDAAAAAAAHHHHSSS! Just win baby!

(-4)Cardinals at 49ers- Cardinals looked too good last week to pick against them. I'll go with the hot hand

Video: What's Wrong With The Steelers???

2

Category: , , , , ,

After watching last night's loss against the Browns, one has to wonder what is REALLY going on with the Pittsburgh Steelers? The Steelers, coming into Cleveland, have now lost five games in a row. You read that right.. the Super Bowl Champs have lost 5 games in a row. Included in those 5 loses are to teams like the Chiefs, Raiders and Browns, all teams you won no more than 3 games coming into their contest against Pittsburgh.

The Steelers went to Cleveland with a 6-6 record, a 12 game win streak over the Browns and in hopes of keeping their playoff chances alive. Instead, they left with a 6-7 record, Big Ben's first loss to Cleveland and a very slim chance to make the playoffs.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

What exactly is going on with the reigning Super Bowl Champs??? The 2006 Steelers also had a Championship hangover after their 2005 Super Bowl win, going for an 8-8 record. But Steelers apologists will always point at the motorcycle accident that Roethlisberger suffered prior to the beginning of that season. So what is it this season that's holding them back for a repeat?!

One thought is the loss of Steelers S Troy Polamalu and DE Aaron Smith . The defense is really struggling with the loss of these two players. Most would only point out Polamalu's loss, which IS huge, but I think that Smith's loss is just as big. Without Smith, teams have had more success running against the defense. And without Polamalu's presence on the field, it shows a disturbing truth that the Steelers secondary is really not that good without their All Pro safety.

Others might suggest a recent divide in the locker room. Hines Wards went public not long ago, telling Bob Costas that the team was "50/50" on Ben being able to play for the Ravens game, one that he sat out for because of a concussion he received the week prior. While fans and media have made fun of Ben in the past by calling him a "drama queen", one has to wonder if the team views their starting QB one as well, and is tired of it. Ward was doubtful up until game time for the Browns game, with a hamstring injury. While Ward did end up playing, you have to question if this was a way for Ward to "learn" his QB a lesson? I know Steelers fans will call this theory asinine, but is it really?! Especially if you are a player that's fed up of your teammate's shenanigans.

Whatever the reason may be, this isn't the Steelers team that fans saw when they demolished the Denver Broncos, or the team that gave the Minnesota Vikings their first loss. For whatever reason, the Steelers are not in synch and look uninspired on the football field. The Steelers have the Packers, Ravens and Dolphins to end the season, all teams that are in the playoff hunt. The Steelers need to win out and then pray that the cards fall their way in order to make the playoffs themselves.

What happens from here, we'll see. But this is one interesting story to watch.

Suggs Being Sued For $70 Million By Accuser

Time waits for no man. Looks like that also applies when filing civil lawsuits.

The Baltimore Sun.com is reporting that Terrell Suggs' is being sued for $70 million by his accuser, Candace Williams, just days after filing a restraining order against the Ravens starting linebacker. She is seeking $20 million in compensatory damages and $50 million in punitive damages. and has also filed for sole custody of their 2 small children.

On Sunday, I blogged about Williams filing a restraining order against Suggs from the same person. Since then, shocking details have come out regarding the accounts to why Williams decided to file the restraining order.

In a statement, Williams alleges that on Nov. 3, Suggs, 27, struck her in the face -- breaking her nose -- and threatened to kill her. She also claims that on Nov. 29, the alleged incident for which she sought a restraining order, Suggs threatened to drown her with bleach "and did in fact pour chemical bleach on [her] entire body as she was forced to stay on the ground."

Williams also states the also stated that the fight started over game tickets.

Suggs has not been criminally charged for the allegations at this time, and police have no record of any emergency calls to their home.

Today, the following tweets were written by @Ravensinsider, who was in Owings Mills this afternoon:

Terrell Suggs on his lawsuit, restraining order: "I really have nothing to hide. As bad as I want to talk about it right now, I just can't."

More Suggs: "When I'm able to do it, you guys can ask a million and one questions about it. Right now, to be safe, I can't speak about it."

More Suggs: "It's one of those things you have to deal with. I'm still coming to work. I'm still getting ready for Sunday.

This story is definitely interesting to follow. If Suggs is guilty of these things, then not only should a civil case be filed, but a criminal case as well. However, if the accuser is fabricating the story, then she looks like the ultimate liar and gold digger, a $70 million dollar one, to be exact. I pray for their two small children, who are caught in the middle of this.

Chad Ocho Cinco: A Funny Guy Or A Showboat?

4

Category: , , , ,

Bengals WR Chad Ocho Cinco was fined $30,000 by the NFL this week, over his sombrero celebration after his touchdown against the Lions. Clearly, the NFL doesn't approve of his antics and will continue to fine him until he tones it down. But is he really doing more harm than good??? Or is he just a kid at heart and having a good time?

I think Ocho Cinco is a fun loving guy, for the most part. He loves the game of football and treats the game like sandlot football, having fun and enjoying what he loves to do. But there are times that his antics was pushed too far. Here are my fave and worst memories of Chad's celebrations:

Funny Celebrations:

River dance Celebration

Clearly he practiced this dance in the mirror a few times before his debut. Dude does it too well. I think Ocho's found his career after football.

Getting his Tiger Woods on

One of the funnier moments, Chad grabs the pile on and pretends he's playing golf with the football.

Dear NFL letter

Call me corny, but asking the NFL not to fine him, when he already knows they are going to, is hilarious to me. It looks like he told his kids to do a project for daddy, before Sunday's game.

Sitchoazz Down Celebrations:

Lambeau-less Leaps

This antic wasn't "bad". The best part about both leaps are the opposing fans. Between the beer bath in Cleveland and the old bearded dude in the white shirt beating on Ocho's back at Lambeau, it makes it funny. But Green Bay's namesake leap was kinda wack because it seemed as if he planted the only 3 Bengals fans in the stadium, right where he could leap. Overall, the leaps itself were blah!

Hall of Fame jacket

Before the 2007 season started, 85 declared that if he scored against the Ravens during the Week 1 showdown, he was gonna do something that blew the other celebrations away. This was flat as week old Pepsi. I felt cheated, I expected so much more. If this were T.O., he would have rose to the occasion, especially with that promise.

$1 Bribe

I don't care what anyone says. Pretending to bribe a ref isn't funny. While I'm sure 85 meant no harm and was having fun, bribes and sports is an extremely touchy subject, particularly since the NFL refs have been awful this season. Everyone sees what happened with the NBA and ex-referee Tim Donaghy. I initially thought that the $20K fined he received was a bit much. But after thinking it over, he's lucky he wasn't fined more, actually. Note to 85: Stay away from fake bribery.

NFL Week 13 Recap and Thoughts

The Ravens lost on Monday night to the Packers. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. My evening would have been a total wash, had it not been for my dad and uncle getting into a heated argument about how good/bad the Ravens are.

When things go bad, my uncle thinks the world will end and everyone on the team is horrible. My dad is the realist, but with a slight more optimism. My uncle sees the glass half empty; my dad, half full. So when you get two opposites in a room and their favorite team, still in the hunt for a playoff spot, loses..... well, let's just say it can get rather ugly- or comical, depending how you look at it. It was the latter for me.

-Play Of The Week: Robert Meachem saves the Saints undefeated season with a strip fumble for a fumble. One of the best plays of the year, actually.

-Upset Of The Week: Clearly Oakland's victory over the Steelers. The Raiders offense has been pretty awful.... until Sunday. Bruce Gradkowski threw for 308 yards and 3 TDs- all in the 4th qtr- and the final TD took the lead with 9 seconds remaining. I really turned my nose up to this game, even during game time. But the Steelers let the Raiders hang around, and they came out with the victory.

- Who would've thought, the 2 worst looking games on paper, would turn out to be the 2 best games of the week. The NO/Was and Oak/Pit games were nothing short of exciting, all the way through. You have to love football for parity.

-I said on the GGals vlog last week, that I didn't think Mike Vick would be a huge factor in his homecoming game against his former team, the Falcons. But I guess Andy Reid had another plan. Vick scored two TDs- 1 rush, 1 pass- in Philly's rout over Atlanta, 34-7. The Eagles looked to shut out the Falcons in their own home, something that hasn't been done in over 20 years, but Atlanta did put up some garbage points in the 4th Qtr as time expired. Fans even started chanting, "We Want Vick", as the 4th qtr was underway. Welcome Back Vick!

-New England is in trouble. After Miami defeated them this past Sunday, 22-21, the Dolphins are only one game behind the Pats for 1st place in the AFC East. This cannot be good for the Belichick Boys. The Pats have lost 2 straight and is winless in opponents stadiums. The Pats' D is playing poorly right now, and they are fighting for their playoff lives. This is definitely something to watch out for.

-Minnesota has been pretty untouchable this season. But Arizona brought them back down to earth a little, in their 30-17 win over the Vikings. The "Geriatric Bowl" was in full effect, with Favre and Warner being two of the oldest starting QBs in the league right now. Favre went back to his old, gunslinging ways, by forcing throws in tight spots and throwing 2 INTs in the game. The Cardinals look to be ready to get their playoff push underway. They looked great.

*extra point* My thoughts and prayers go out to Vikings LB EJ Henderson. EJ had a devastating leg injury and will be out for the rest of the season. Watching it happen in real time was extremely painful to witness. If you saw Willis McGahee's leg injury in the 2003 BCS Championship game, it was along those lines. Henderson is a former Terp, so I have extra love for him. I hope he has a full recovery.

-Guess I was wrong about Tennessee ending the Colts' winning streak. Hey, I can't be awesome all the time, I do have flaws.

-Congrats to LaDainian Tomlinson, who passed Jim Brown for 8th on the all-time rushing list. LT also scored his 150th TD, and did such a feat faster than the likes of Hall Of Famers Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice. LT has been one of the greatest players this decade. Even after the injury plagued seasons, he's still churning, running and scoring TDs. Good things happening to good guys is always story. And LT deserves it

*extra point* Philip Rivers, I still love you boo!

The NFL Chick Loves Nnamdi Asomugha- Video

Category: , , , ,

Raiders NFL CB Nnamdi Asomugha isn't just known to be a shut down corner. He's known to help those in need. The high profile NFL player helping Kenneth Chancey, a homeless teenager, who's a straight A student as well as an athlete.

Asomugha created the Asomugha College Tour for students, in which he picks inner city kids and takes them on a college tour, all expenses paid.

This is a great video to watch. Of all the things NFL players do, getting college degrees is something that's not considered newsworthy. Asomugha, a college grad himself, is doing a great thing. Not only is he easy on the eyes, he's educated and doing what he can to help others follow his family's footsteps, all of whom are college grads.

Asomugha, The NFL Chick loves you, not only for being awesome on the football field and a cutie pie, but for your charitable contributions off-the-field.

Video: Dungy Talks About Minority Coaches In NCAAF

Or lack thereof.....

Breaking sports news video. MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL highlights and more.

Former NFL head coach Tony Dungy talks about the lack of minority coaches in BCS universities. Dungy states that the numbers support the theory of institutional racism. He also states that there is currently one minority coach out of 65 major BCS schools (Randy Shannon, University of Miami).

Minority head coaches have been an issue that the NCAA football has been going through for quite sometime. Some coaches feel their best chance at filling a head coaching vacancy would be in the NFL ranks. Bucs head coach Raheem Morris is a good example of an assistant coach who couldn't get a head coaching job in the college ranks, but instead received an opportunity with Tampa Bay, after John Gruden was fired.

It was only a year ago that Charles Barkley called out Auburn for hiring Iowa State's Gene Chizik over Buffalo's Turner Gill, who is black. Gill had turned the program around and took the school to their first MAC Championship, while Chizik had a 5-19 record in 2 seasons at Iowa State.

Some people believe that a "Rooney Rule" should be in place throughout the NCAA, which would mandate at least 1 minority interview per vacancy. But in my opinion, that will not happen anytime soon. Boosters and alumni play a HUGE role into the head coach hiring and lot of universities are just not ready to place a minority into such an authoritative position. The NCAA needs to do better, one in 65 teams is beyond unacceptable. Hopefully Dungy's words will help get the ball rolling on doing something about the lack of minority head coaches.

Restraining Order Filed Against Ravens' Suggs

Category: , , , ,

A court restraining order was filed against Ravens LB Terrell Suggs. According to the MD court database, it was cited as a domestic violence dispute.

Suggs told the Baltimore Sun,

"I won't have anything to say. It's a family matter, and family matters should be kept personal. But all you guys [in the media] know me and my character, and, hopefully, at the end of the day that stands for something."

The woman identified as Candace Williams, filed the complaint on Friday in a Baltimore district court. It is reported that Williams isn't his current girlfriend. Suggs was a guest correspondent on the ESPN show, "Rome Is Burning", and acknowledged that he was engaged, but it is unclear whether Williams was his fiancee'.

The only other incident Suggs has been involved in was a 2003 brawl in Phoenix, AZ, in which he was charged for aggravated assault. He was acquitted 2 years later.

This will be an interesting story to watch, as the Ravens are looking to make a playoff run down the stretch. While Suggs has been out with a knee injury, he has said he expects to be back on the field before the season ends. If Suggs has charges filed against him, there may be a suspension handed down by the commissioner, either this season or the beginning of the next.

Stay tuned..........
