The NFL Chick's NFL Midseason Review

Category: , , ,

Time flies, it's already Week 9 of the NFL season. I remember Week 1 just like it was yesterday. This is the time of year that we start to see who are the real playoff contenders, from those that are playoff pretenders. We also see a lot of bad teams either get worse, or squeak a win during the final weeks of the season (when the other starters are resting, of course).

So here my special edition of this year's Midseason Report, NFL Chick style.

Gold Star Winners

Colts, Saints

Both teams are playing lights out football right now. In my opinion, there are the Colts and Saints, and then there is everybody else. You can make a case for Minnesota here, but they lost to Pittsburgh and was a field goal miss away from having 2 losses. These two teams are the cream of the crop until they lose.

Two Thumbs Up Because You Rock

Vikings, Broncos, Steelers, Patriots, Eagles

I don't think anyone expected the Steelers, Pats, Eagles and Vikings to be anything less than very good. But I would bet money that no one outside of Denver saw the Broncos as a 6-1 team at this point. Every year the NFL has a surprise team, and the Broncos have filled that position for 2009 season.. so far anyway. While you can make a case easily that all of these teams should be with the gold star click, they aren't undefeated.

You're Good.. But How Good ARE You????

Bengals, Ravens, Cowboys, Texans, Packers

All of these teams have potential and talent. But they aren't clear cut to me at the moment. Before you Bengals fans come in my blog with that "Who Dey" talk, The Cleveland game is still stuck in my mind. One of the most awful teams in the league took you to OT and almost to a tie. The Bears rout was great, but let's be real, the Bears are the most suspect 4-3 out there. The Ravens lost 3 close games to good teams by a combined 11 points. They aren't over the hump. The Texans have offense to put numbers up, but will be tested when they play Indy this weekend. And the Cowboys have beat the likes of the Bucs, Chiefs, Seahawks and Panthers, all subpar teams. Let's see how they play Philly on Sunday night. Tha Pack had 2 desicive losses to the Favre -led Vikings.

C'Mon Son!

Falcons, Giants, Cardinals

The Giants and the Falcons had great starts but have struggled as of late. The G-Men have gone from 5-0 to 5-3 and the Falcons went from 4-1 to losing 2 straight. The Cardinals didn't have as great a start, but won 3 in a row before they lost to the lowly Panthers. All of these teams went to the playoffs in 2008, with the Cards being the NFC representative in last season's Super Bowl. But they are at a huge crossroads right now. C'mon son, get it together! Folks expect more out of this group. And I expect them to right the ship during the second half of the season.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde/Sybil Syndrome

Chargers, Bears, 49ers, Jets, Dolphins,

I have no idea what will happen when any of these teams take the field. All have played good football in one game, then laid a big fat goose egg the next. I don't trust any of these teams at this point. The Chargers always have a slow start with a strong finish, so I can only assume this year is no different. But this group is a crap shoot. I tend to flip a coin when choosing their games. These teams give the term "Bi Polar" a new meaning.

Delusional

Seahawks, Jaguars, Redskins, Bills, Panthers, Titans

I know deep inside you think there is still a small possibility that you could make the playoffs. But I'm here to tell you... you won't. Stop lying to yourselves! There's no hope for you. Go Sitchoazz Down!

The Rejects

Buccaneers, Browns, Lions, Rams, Raiders, Chiefs

If you are a fan of any of the mentioned teams then you already know.....your record smells like month old garbage. Time to start scouting top 5 draft picks. See ya' next year. It's been fun!

And somehow you didn't have the Redskins in the Rejects column, though calling them delusional is just about as bad. LOL

The ratings are just about right. Great post and good job.

Your breakdown is on point, and I won't even argue about where my Cowboys are. To me, the Titans are rejects, but like mindpinball says, being delusional, in this case, is worse.
