NFL Week 9 Recap And Thoughts

Category: , ,

Last week, I put the Ravens in my "You're Good, But HOW Good" column for my mid season review. But I had it all wrong. They are clearly a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde team. How can you go from playing lights out against Denver one week, to playing flat, uninspired football the next?? More and more do I wonder if this team is still riding on their 2008 accomplishments, when they were one game away from the Super Bowl. This past week alone, there have been sightings of players hanging out, when they should have been getting ready to play their division rival in a big matchup. Yet, the secondary can't catch a cold, the offense struggles against aggressive defenses... so many things has me wondering who really cares about winning games, or simply soaking up the life of an NFL player. At this point, I think it's safe to say we are a long shot for the playoffs. I still love my squad, but they are breaking my heart.

*extra point* I love Chad Ocho Cinco, but sometimes he takes things too far. Most know that I have no problems with his antics. I think he's a good guy and means no disrespect. But the fake "bribe" during the Ravens-Bengals game was dumb, when he tried to pass off a $1 bill to an official.

With all of the issues the NBA had with bribery, the NFL wants to try and steer as far away from that as possible. Usually I don't think his antics mean anything, but this time I can't defend him. He needed to sit his azz down on that one.

-Before we go any further, let's congratulate the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their win against the Packers. The last team to win a game!!!!!!

Did anyone find it ironic that they won with the same creamsicle colors that had Tampa as perennial losers until they changed them???

- The hottest topic right now is the fight between Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall and Falcons head coach Mike Smith.

I don't know how the league will look at this, but I have no problem with Mike Smith coming in to defend his player. First things first, why is Hall even involved in the scuffle, he wasn't the player to make the hit out of bounds to begin with. And second, did anyone see LaRon Landry get the hell outta dodge? He wanted no parts of that. And now Hall wants to file a complaint against Smith with the commissioner. In the words of Ocho Cinco, "Child Please!"

-Tommie Harris is a dumb azz. It's bad enough the Bears were losing to the Cardinals pretty decisively, early on. But to punch an opposing player is beyond stupid. You deserved to get ejected. Take your aggressions out by playing good football, not by taking cheap shots at players.

- Damn you, Colts and Saints! Just when it looked like both of you would go down in the same week..... You're still here!

-Philip Rivers' 4th qtr go-ahead TD pass with 21 seconds against the Giants left should show folks how good Rivers really is. He's playing with a patch made offensive line that can't run block, barely pass block and can't create a solid pocket long enough for a lot of QB's to make the throws. But Rivers seems make a way. A stat I found quite compelling: Since 2006, Rivers and Roethlisberger are tied 2nd in the league for the most 4th Qtr comebacks, with 11. Only Peyton Manning has been better. Give my boo props!

-The Cowboys are controlling their destiny right now. With the Giants sliding and Philly see sawing (as usual), they have sole possession of 1st place in the NFC East right now. This and the AFC North contents are two that I think everyone should keep an eye on.

-Are the Broncos the real deal??? One has to wonder this. Before Denver fans get their panties and boxer briefs in a bunch, I'm not saying they aren't. What I am saying, is, in their 6 wins, the Broncos played teams close (except the Raiders and Browns... but what's new) and allowed the defense to dictate the 4th quarter. In their 2 losses, the Broncos allowed the opposing teams to make plays in the 2nd half (which, until Week 8, they prided themselves in owning), and eventually made it hard for them to catch up. They are still a good team. but when the playoffs come, you have to make the plays downfield, something Denver hasn't done much of. Denver, fix this problem. San Diego is right on your heels, and we all know the Chargers make a strong push in the 2nd half of the season, after a slow start. You may be sitting at home when the regular season is over.

all of that was cool... except when u congratulated the bucs. smh

Nice info. When is it time to start hanging the defensive failures on a person (people) in regards to your Ravens? I've already started to look at my Giants D-line as ones not getting it done...
thx for the blog post tho...

Cowboys baby!!!

Giants secondary is a walkin mash unit. The Ravens are starting to show their age on D, and their corners are piss poor.

We haven't seen the real Eagles. They hang a 40 jawn on the Giants, but the Giants are slipping. The Iggles then get blitzed by the Saints. We don't have a true feel for the Eagles yet.

The Cowboys doin the thug thizzle.

AFC North is the division to watch this year.

I've come to the conclusion that the only way Rivers is gonna get the props he deserves is when he takes his team to the Super Bowl. There are only a few QBs I trust more than him in the fourth quarter. He's been good for quite some time now, but folks wanna point out other stuff, instead of just givin' him his due.
