I'm over it. Officially.

At first, I wasn't going to write about it at all, simply because Brett Favre is getting all of the attention he needs for every other sports outlet, channel and blogger in existence right now. But I've been asked on my take about the whole situation, so here it is:

I want off the Favre Merry-Go-Round.

In the past 24 hours, so many conflicting reports have come out, regarding the Vikings 40 year-old QB. The initial reports said that Favre had contacted the Minnesota Vikings, saying that he would not be returning to the team for the 2010 season. Wow, so he's finally gonna do it... he's gonna retire this year, right?!

Pump your brakes! Vikings head coach Brad Childress then had a press conference shortly after, looking dazed and confused. The reason? He hadn't talked to Favre about his so-called "retirement" plans.

To further add fuel to the Favre Watch fire, NFL Network's Steve Mariucci called the NFL Total Access show, saying that everyone needs to, "calm down" and says that he's talked to Favre, who said he was trying to get his body healthy and healed up (His ankle was still healing and wasn't 100%). Mariucci also points out that Favre has not officially retired yet, that he's simply waiting to see if his ankle improves or not and if he can play again.

I'm over it. Over the Favre Watch, Favre-A-Palooza... call it whatever you want, but I'm over it. Brett Favre is undoubtedly a 1st ballot Hall-Of-Famer and one of the great Quarterbacks to play the great sport of football. But the yearly chess match of, "Will he or won't he play?" has become annoying. Some think this is great for the game, but I disagree. The NFL is great enough where they don't need this kind of drama to stand out. Others think that Favre is so great that he can do whatever the hell he wants. That may be true, but before Favre there was Montana, Marino, and Unitas. After Favre there are Manning, Brady and Rodgers (remember him? The guy that took over once Favre left Green Bay, who is doing okay for himself). Not to mention, most respected analysts and bloggers don't believe he'll retire anyway.

So the constant drama around one guy year-in and year-out is uncalled for.

This will be the last Favre post that Yours Truly will write, at least until he's OFFICIALLY retired. I want off the Favre Merry-Go-Round. Not now, but RIGHT now.
