This weekend, the NFL had an interesting sequence of events take place .. and it's only preseason. Favre returned, but didn't last long, Tim Cowlishaw made some bold statements and the kickoff of the Gridiron Gals Tour was underway. In case you missed it, here's a quick recap:
I went with my GGals partner Pigskin Loving Lady to the Ravens-Redskins preseason game, and we had a ball! It was the unofficial kickoff of the Gridiron Gals Tour, us going to different stadiums and doing what we do best-enjoy the game of football- while recording our experience. Check out the full video of us by clicking here. (by-the-way, that towel I was wrapped in? Ed Reed's towel that he threw up after the game was over... I'm in lust with it)
Big Ben made his return to the football as he started for the Steelers against the NY Giants. Roethlisberger finished 6-for8 for 76 yards and an INT Pittsburgh's preseason won over the G-Men. The best part about the game was the cat fight between Steelers Ike Taylor and Giants Hakeem Nicks.... they were windmilling everywhere, like two school girls. I love when players swing on other guys with helmets on, don't you?
A couple of guys got JACKED UP this weekend. First, it was Bengals WR, who took a vicious hit and was woozy afterward against the Philadelphia Eagles.
We know it's only preseason but when that adrenaline gets to rushing, there's nothing you can do to stop that momentum. Shout out to Ocho Cinco for getting up without help.
ESPN's Tim Cowlishaw tweeted some encouraging new for Jets fans over the weekend:
That's great news! Too bad Adam Schefter and Peter King don't seem to agree with this tweet. I dunno about you, but I'd take Schefter word over any other NFL insider. Not sure how Cowlishaw, of all people, would be the one to get such important news. But we'll see how this fares by the end of the week.
And finally... Brett Favre got a nice "Welcome Back" greeting from the San Francisco 49ers last night. Favre played just 4 series, and this was the main reason why:
Old Man Favre went down faster than Hookers At The Point. The Vikings had NO answer for Patrick Willis' stunt up the middle. I'm sure Favre expected a warmer welcome than that. In any event, the 49ers fans (and other fans that are over the Favre drama) were elated.
When I originally heard about Victoria's Secret's new NFL line, I was excited! I love Vicki's Secret and I love the NFL, so it's the perfect combination for a girly girl that loves the gridiron, like myself (after all, I AM a Gridiron Gal *wink*). But after looking into the line a little more, I realized that only a selected amount of teams have been picked. The list is, as follows:
Denver Broncos Chicago Bears Dallas Cowboys Minnesota Vikings New England Patriots New York Giants New York Jets Oakland Raiders Philadelphia Eagles Pittsburgh Steelers San Diego Chargers Washington Redskins Carolina Panthers
So of course, I looked at this list with a confused look on my face
Where are my Baltimore Ravens??? Where are the New Orleans Saints??? And I can't believe I'm even asking this... but where are the Indianapolis Colts? As a regular VS shopper, I feel slighted! And my GGal counterpart, Pigskin Loving Lady feels the same about her Bills not being listed as well. The San Diego Chargers?? The Carolina Panthers??? REALLY?! With the exception of the Cowboys, Redskins and Steelers, I can make a case as to why my team should be listed over the rest of these teams.
I get it. It's about the apparel sales, which ties these teams into being listed. But let's be honest, there are only 32 teams. It's the NFL. I'm having a hard time believing that all 32 teams wouldn't sell their products in their respected markets. The NFL within itself means
The line goes on sale August 10th. For obvious reasons, I won't be buying it. And if I seem to be a bit bitter about it, maybe it's because I am.
Sorry I've been neglecting the blog. This is a very big week for my Ravens, and I think the nervousness has finally set in. Tomorrow is a BIG game for my boys and I get more anxious within each hour. Tomorrow, check out the Gridiron Gals Divisional Football picks, but today check out the Blogs Of The Week:
Pigskin Loving Lady takes a look at former Colts Marvin Harrison case, which has since been re evaluated and now investigated by the Feds. if you haven't heard much about this story, it will low your mind. Check out the details regarding Harrison's alleged involvement in a murder.
Ed The Sports Fan has 2 great articles. The new hire of Pete Carroll to the Seattle Seahawks has fans and media wondering if he will bring back the winning times of the once NFC West champs. ETSF also talks about Carroll's successor at USC, Lane Kiffin, and why he's not mad that Kiffin jumped ship from the Vols and ran to Southern Cal.
MKRob tells us how Colts WR Pierre Garcon is coping with trying to find his family members after the devastating earthquake in Haiti.
Ravens Gab talks about how most people are still eating crow after all saying the Ravens didn't have a chance against New England. Do we have a chance against the Colts, we shall see.
And as always, don't forget to check out my other website, Gridiron Gals. Latest news on Ray Lewis's blogging journey, the Bears season in a nutshell, and more.
Sorry I didn't have a recap ready for you guys and gals this week. I promise I'll be back on my grind next week. In the meantime, here are the best blog reads of the week:
Pigskin Loving Lady shows how Jets S Kerry Rhodes shut down the mall in her latest post. Find out who showed up to support Rhodes at his event.
JP Losman has entered the NFL building! Find out on MKRob's blog, what team has been blessed by Losman's presence (or cursed, whichever way you look at it).
Ed The Sports Fan talks about the final quarter of the NFL season. Find out his thoughts on the Undefeateds, the Cardinals, and who has fallen from grace.
BlackSportsOnline takes a look at Panthers CB Chris Gamble's claim that Randy Moss had quit during the game.
And last, but certainly not least, check out the Gridiron Gals site for a females perspective on the Eagles, Ravens, Raiders or any of your favorite teams.
Browns at (-3.5)Lions- Just when you thought the Monday Night football game was bad.... it gets worse... Taking the Lions... because they have more talent than Cleveland.
49ers at (-6.5)Packers- The Pack looked good last week. Since they are at home, I'll stick with them.
Seahawks at (-11)Vikings- Seahawks look bad, real bad, Michael Jackson. Taking the Vikings
(-11.5)Saints at Buccanners- I won't lie.. there is a BIG part of me that wants to pick the Bucs. This is the time of year that the unbeaten get beat. But I don't think the Bucs has what it takes on D to stop Brees and Co. on offense. Picking the Saints, even though I'm not 100% feeling it.
Bills at (-9)Jaguars- The Bills are a mess. They just fired Dick Jauron, T.O. has been non existent, and the QB carousel of Edwards and Fitzpatrick hasn't been effective. Picking the Jags.
(-10)Steelers at Chiefs- What is up with these games this weekend?! I'm bored just looking at the matchups. Steelers
(-9)Cardinals at Rams- The Rams are finally playing inspiring football. Last year, the Cardinals had a couple of stumbles in their path to the Super Bowl, including a blowout game in New England. While St Louis is hardly New England, I'm gonna grow a pair and pick them. Yep, you heard it right, picking the Rams FTW. Because playing a division opponent is never easy (See Bengals-Browns earlier this season) and the Rams are getting some swagger. At the very least, I expect the Rams to cover the spread.
(-9.5)Bengals at Raiders- The Raiders are a mess. JaMarcus Russell has benched in favor of Bruce Gradkowski. Neither one of them are winners if you ask me. This should be a walk in the park for the Bengals D.
(-3)Eagles at Bears- I want to help the Bears out and pick them... But I'd be lying if I told you I actually think they have a chance at winning. Iggles
My sis Pigskin Loving Lady gives us a taste at what Vikings LT Bryant McKinnie looks like without his uniform. Ladies, it's a good look.
MKRob tells us the latest on the QB debacle in Oakland. Will JaMarcus Russell start, or will Bruce Gradkowski finally get a start??? Find out here.
Everyone knows the Browns are awful, including Ed The Sports Fan. But he ponders the question, what if he were GM of the struggling franchise?? Ed gives you his take on how he would turn the organization around.
The Gridiron Gals shows us why Girls Love Good D. Get your mind out of the gutter, D is for defense... as in Green bay's ferocious unit.
Mind Pinball takes a look at the Ravens win over the Cleveland Browns and asks, isn't a win supposed to inspire confidence. Even with the shut out, the Ravens proved nothing on Monday night. Find out his take on my favorite team.
Detroit at (-13.5)Green Bay- I actually expect Detroit to put up a fight but I can't pick against The Pack at home.... Go Pack Go!
Cleveland at (-14)Pittsburgh- Cleveland finally got a win and the Steelers lost a big run stopper in Aaron Smith.... But that won't change a damn thing in this game... Steelers
(-3)Carolina at Tampa Bay- Does anyone outside Charlotte and Tampa Care about this game?? Since I have to choose.. I'm gonna throw a bone at Tampa. Maybe this is the week they finally get a win. Carolina just got first win last week... time for the Panthers to spread the 1 win love around.
Kansas City at (-6.5)Washington- Since the Redskins love to give winless teams their first win, and KC actually comes to play ta times... why not go ahead and pick the Chiefs? Yup... picking the Chiefs.
St. Louis at (-9.5)Jacksonville- Another "who cares" game that no one will see because the game will be blacked out in both cities. Since I have to choose, I'll go with Jacksonville.
Arizona at (-3)Seattle- Both of these teams are hot and cold... never warm. I'll go with the Seahawks at home
Buffalo at (-9.5)NY Jets- Bills, I have lost some hope in you, even with T.O. You look defeated. The Jets are angry about that loss, so you'll be the one they take it out on.
The first week of the Byes are here, so the list will start to get shorter until the final weeks of the season. So let's pick these games, shall we.
Check out the video from my sister website GridironGals:
Detroit at (-10)Chicago- Sorry Lions, I picked you last week, but back to losing this week. I'm taking Da Bears! (-6)Cincinnati at Cleveland- Ummmm... yeah... Cleveland is awful. Taking the Banegals because at least they show up
Seattle at (-10)Indianapolis- Who gon' check Peyton Manning, boo?! Colts, it is
(-8.5)NY Giants at Kansas City- Hey KC, how's Matt Cassel faring for you???? I'll take Eli and the G-Men FTW!!
Tampa Bay at (-7.5)Washington- Gotta pick the Redskins. Tampa looks pretty bad.
Oakland at (-8.5)Houston- Until JaMarcus Russell plays like an NFL QB, I can't pick them.. I just can't...... (-1)Buffalo at Miami- Chad Pennington exits, Marshawn Lynch enters, T.O. will get a catch... Picking the Bills St. Louis at (-9.5)San Francisco- Ummm... Kyle Boller starts today... I'll hold in my laughter for now. 9ers will win this one
From GridironGals.com- Myself and Pigskin Loving Lady and video of Week 3 Picks:
The rest of Week 3's picks:
Browns at (-13.5)Ravens- The Ravens got torched last week on defense... but ummm, Cleveland does have the personnel that San Diego has. The Ravens FTW!!!!
(-6.5)Packers at Rams- Poor Rams.... You should have won last week... To 0-3 you go, picking the Packers.
Chiefs at (-9)Eagles- I want to use my sympathy pick for the Chiefs... but I can't. Iggles it is!
(-6.5)Giants at Buccaneers- I'm gonna go out on a limb and pick the Bucs. I think that the Giants are hurting, particularly on defense, and the Bucs may be able to stand strong for 60 mins of this game. This is also my sympathy pick, I want them to win a game
Jaguars at (-4)Texans- I'm gonna go out on another limb and pick the Jags. This is a division rival, anything goes against an opponent you know.
(-2.5)Bears at Seahawks- Da Bears!
(-6)Saints at Bills- Drew Brees is unstoppable.... but I expect this game to be closer, because the Bills have a good secondary. The Saints will pull out with a win.
(-1.5)Broncos at Raiders- I think the Broncos are being ignored around the league. They are 2-0 against bad teams. Oakland's QB situation is ugly to watch. I'm going with Denver
Dolphins at (-5.5)Chargers- Doesn't look too good for the 'Phins. The Chargers know they lost a close one last week. Philip Rivers should have a field day
Colts at (-2.5)Cardinals- Both QB's had record setting games last week.. so who to choose, hmmmmmm??? Going with Manning and the Colts.
Hey there fam. I've been hiding some news from you, but now it's time I reveal what I've been up to. I just debuted my baby last week, and she's beautiful!!
Okay, I didn't have a REAL baby... But I have a new website that I treat like a brand new baby. Myself and Pigskin Loving Lady came up with this website, Gridiron Gals, to showcase women who love football, and who actually KNOW what they are talking about. We came up with the idea because we knew there were so many women who loved football as much as we do, and wanted to express football related thoughts and analysis on a website. So we put our brains together and our baby, Gridiron Gals, was born.
We have over a dozen female bloggers, which is something we're extremely proud of, for starting a brand new website. And it makes it better for the guys that we're pretty cute too! Each female blogs about their favorite team. We have teams such as the Cowboys, Steelers, Giants and Bills cover, just to name a few. Of course, the NFL Chick is blogging about one of the best organizations in the NFL, the Baltimore Ravens *flex muscles*. So check out all of my Ravens thoughts over at www.gridirongals.com and let me know what you think. Suggs Celebrity Weekend
So Terrell Suggs' celebrity weekend has come and gone and looked to be a great success. Suggs' Weekend was to raise money for the Proudford Sickle Cell Fund. He brought in a plethora of celebrity friends to help make this an event folks wouldn't forget.
