See How The Meadowlands Changes Go Down (and Up)!

2

Category: , , ,

So I found this video on Yahoo Sports and thought it was pretty interesting and cool. A video in quadruple speed, showing how the stadium transforms from Giants stadium on Sunday afternoon to Jets stadium, ready for Monday Night Football.

New Meadowlands Stadium Change Over Time-Lapse from Ken Friberg and Daniel Life on Vimeo.

The fake nerdy side of me is amazed by this video. I've always wondered the process of transforming everything for the 2 teams, but now we get to see it first hand (even though it's CLEARLY on speed mode and I don't mean how fast it's going).

Am I the only person that thinks this is a bit much and the Jets would have been better off getting their own stadium after all of this? By the time you pay all of the people doing the transformations, you'd probably buy a new stadium anyway.

I figured this was a cool insight on the makings of Giants/Jets Stadium in the new Meadowlands. Enjoy your weekend!

In Case You Missed It- NFL Weekend Recap

1

Category: , , , , , , , , , ,

This weekend, the NFL had an interesting sequence of events take place .. and it's only preseason. Favre returned, but didn't last long, Tim Cowlishaw made some bold statements and the kickoff of the Gridiron Gals Tour was underway. In case you missed it, here's a quick recap:

TNC Reed towel
I went with my GGals partner Pigskin Loving Lady to the Ravens-Redskins preseason game, and we had a ball! It was the unofficial kickoff of the Gridiron Gals Tour, us going to different stadiums and doing what we do best-enjoy the game of football- while recording our experience. Check out the full video of us by clicking here. (by-the-way, that towel I was wrapped in? Ed Reed's towel that he threw up after the game was over... I'm in lust with it)

Big Ben made his return to the football as he started for the Steelers against the NY Giants. Roethlisberger finished 6-for8 for 76 yards and an INT Pittsburgh's preseason won over the G-Men. The best part about the game was the cat fight between Steelers Ike Taylor and Giants Hakeem Nicks.... they were windmilling everywhere, like two school girls.

I love when players swing on other guys with helmets on, don't you?

A couple of guys got JACKED UP this weekend. First, it was Bengals WR, who took a vicious hit and was woozy afterward against the Philadelphia Eagles.

We know it's only preseason but when that adrenaline gets to rushing, there's nothing you can do to stop that momentum. Shout out to Ocho Cinco for getting up without help.

ESPN's Tim Cowlishaw tweeted some encouraging new for Jets fans over the weekend:

That's great news! Too bad Adam Schefter and Peter King don't seem to agree with this tweet. I dunno about you, but I'd take Schefter word over any other NFL insider. Not sure how Cowlishaw, of all people, would be the one to get such important news. But we'll see how this fares by the end of the week.

And finally... Brett Favre got a nice "Welcome Back" greeting from the San Francisco 49ers last night. Favre played just 4 series, and this was the main reason why:

Old Man Favre went down faster than Hookers At The Point. The Vikings had NO answer for Patrick Willis' stunt up the middle. I'm sure Favre expected a warmer welcome than that. In any event, the 49ers fans (and other fans that are over the Favre drama) were elated.

NFL Week 17 Recap And Thoughts

The regular season is officially over, and I must admit, I'm kinda sad.....
Photobucket
end of regular season means post season which means Pro Bowl and Super Bowl which THEN means the season is over before we know it. That alone has me sad that the end is near. That being said, football still played this past weekend. So let's discuss, shall we? I'm getting all sentimental and whatnot.....

Congrats to my Baltimore Ravens for make the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row. My heart has been broken pretty much this whole season, and yet we still found a way to make it to the dance. Check out my post on Gridiron Gals about our win over the Oakland Raiders. I'm so proud of my guys.

*extra point* Hiram Eugene got OWNED!!!

Most people think that the NY Jets were given a pass for the playoffs, since both Indy and Cincy sat their starters for much of the game. And while that point is very well noted, lets be clear. Each team has the key to their own destiny. So if you are the Texans, Broncos, Steelers, Dolphins and Jaguars you can't be but so mad. You all have lost to teams that you probably should have blown out. Blame no one but yourselves for not getting the wins and losses in your favor.

*extra point* The Jets shouldn't be in the playoffs though. I'm just saying.... hey, everyone has a Rick James moment (see Dave Chappelle for clarification). This was mine.

Congrats to Titans Chris Johnson for getting 2,000 rushing yards, the 6th player to ever accomplish such a feat.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Johnson also broke Marshall Faulk's NFL record of yards from scrimmage, with 2,509. I have said it before and I'll say it again. I like Adrian Peterson and all, but I'll take CJ any day of the week. Not only can Johnson make plays but he doesn't suffer from fumblitis.

Black Monday has come and as we expected, Danny Boy kicked Jim Zorn to the curb while en route to woo Mike Shanahan and family to get to town. I feel bad for Zorn, everything that went down was not all his fault. His offensive line is patchwork at best, he lost his best player on offense in Chris Cooley, his QB looks like a dear in headlights at times, and he had the laziest $100 million dollar man in Fat Albert, bad mouthing him because HE was late. He was destined to lose. And until Snyder lets someone take over the executive football duties and just sit in an owners box, I'm not sure if Jesus Christ himself could help. Good luck Shanahan. At least you'll get paid *shrugs*

*extra point* Bears fans, be patient with Lovie Smith. I know you expected big things this season. But any Broncos fan could have warned you about Cutler. Lovie deserves one last chance, and a couple of key players, and all of this will be laughable in the future.

What in the world is up with the G-Men the past 2 weeks?!

In 2 weeks alone they have given up 85 points, 41 of them to a struggling Panthers team. I know the Giants have since fired their defensive coordinator as a result, but it will be interesting to see what they do during free agency and /or the draft, to help with the problems on defense.

DeSean Jackson needs to get the STFU Award of the week.

Now you guys and gals know that I love Jackson, I think he's a dynamic player. But then Jackson turned around said the following on Twitter Sunday night,

"Got smashed by them cowboys 2daaaaaay sheeeeesh its all good we gonna sting they ass next week lil buddy..."

Come on dude, why are you on twitter talking crap? You just got SMASHED by the Cowboys, 24-0. I suggest you eat some humble pie until you actually beat them, since you haven't been able to do that all season. STFU dude!

Cris Carter Speaks Out About Plaxico Burress

7

Category: , , , ,

This week, ESPN's Cris Carter spoke out regarding Plaxico Burress and his E:60 interview, which airs in its entirety tonight at 7pm. Carter talks about the lack of remorse Burress shows and how the sports world praised him for his athletic ability as early as childhood, which possibly led up to the bad decisions plax has made in the past.

Cris Carter and I tend to have the same thought process, and this video is an extension of both of us having almost identical ways of thinking. I really haven't spoke on the Burress situation, mainly because everyone else in the sports world has, but I think Carter is dead-on in this segment. Plax didn't take his job seriously, and his larger-than-life personality led up to the events that now has Burress ready to serve a 2-year sentence.

Whether you agree with the sentence or not, I think most of us can agree that his decision making was poor and was "smelling himself" when it came to what he had to do as a WR on a professional football team.

Once again, Carter and I are on the same page. I couldn't agree with him more. And I'm glad someone isn't biting their tongue about it.

Free Agency Overload

2

Category: , , , , , , , , ,

Free agency has been a non stop machine since 12:00 Friday morning

I think I'm in Free Agency Overload. Just when I think I know who's going wear and what team signed who, something happens to make me see different.

A lot of players who made their careers with one team, now have new homes. Brian Dawkins a Bronco? Does even feel right to say that. Fred Taylor a Patriot? Feels wrong and dirty for some reason. Ray Lewis going to....oh wait, Ray Ray didn't get an offer from another team yet (tee hee hee)
Photobucket Photobucket

But trying to keep up with this year's free agency requires a full time job. Shout out to guys like Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen that do nothing but call, text and email to give us, the fans, the latest scoop on their favorite team. Let's review the biggest moves in free agency this weekend, shall we?

Broncos Go Crazy!- Okay, by now we all know that Brian Dawkins is now rocking a horse on his helmet, and no longer an Eagle (from what I hear, Philly fans are LIVID about this).
Photobucket

But in addition to Dawkins, they went on a spending spree and also signed WR Jabar Gaffney (Pats), RB Correll Buckhalter (Eagles), RB JJ Arrington (Cards), WR David Anderson (Texans), S Renaldo Hill(Dolphins), Tom, Dick, Harry, Craig and nem....

Okay seriously. There were more people to the list, but you get my point. The Broncos weren't playing around. They were about business and they plan on contending this season.

In addition to adding all of these new player on the roster, there were trade rumors swirling around, regarding QB Jay Cutler and QB Matt Cassel. Even though it didn't happen, poor wittew baby Cutler was upset with the notion and even stated that the team would go in an uproar if he were traded.
Photobucket

Really?! Do you really think other guys would fight tooth and nail over someone other than themselves. Man please!

Now, with all of these new acquisitions they have, they better be competitive this upcoming season. If they just so happen to stink up the joint again, like last year, I'm gonna be the first one cracking up at this news. Mainly because I really don't like Cutler anyway. I think he's a whiner and a brat- two things I hate the most.

Matt Cassel, Mike Vrabel traded to KC for 2nd round draft pick-
Photobucket Photobucket

Are you kidding me?!?! Seriously, when I read this, I thought this was a rumor. But it turns out to be true. After Belichick put the franchise tag on Cassel, I thought one of two things would happen. Either he would stay with the Pats at least another year, to make sure Brady's knee is okay. Or he would be traded and the Pats would get 2- 1st round picks, as that is the usual trade offer for a tagged player.

But to get 2 players for the price of one draft pick? And it's not even a 1st rounder? Wow!

Who knows if Brady is healthy enough to start on opening day. Hell, who knows if he's ready to give up his schmoozing sessions, with him and Gisele being joined at the hip nowadays.
Photobucket

But if Belchick likes it, then I love it. It doesn't hurt that Cassel's $14+ million cap space is lifted either

Giants beef up defense, signing Canty and Bernard- Okay, am I the only one surprised by these signings? The last time I checked, the Giants were the 5th ranked defense in 2008, and that's without Osi, who was placed on IR last year. So why are they stacking up so much on defense?

Word has it, their #1 receiver, Plaxico Burress, is acting as if he isn't a member of the team, sending out notions that he wants to be traded. Even if he didn't want to be traded, he has a gun charge held over his head. Who knows if he'll be in jail by the time the season starts anyway.
Photobucket

Once Burress was no longer on the field, the Giants WRs looked average at best.

I know the Giants were a Top 10 offense. But let's be real... it was because they had the #1 rushing offense in the league. That will make your overall yardage go waaaayyy up. Their passing game averaged 198 yards per game.

My point? Defense was never the problem. Giants, get a WR and get it NOW. TJ Whoseyourmama is still out there. Give him a call!!!

OT- My prayers are going out to the families and friends of NFL players Corey Smith and Marquis Cooper, along with the two other guys missing. The 4 young men went on a fishing trip on Saturday and has been missing ever since. I'm praying for a miracle.
